Ok So I was in the shower soaping up as I usually do and I went, wait thats it, suddenly im going through the facts over in my head.
Heres what I thought about.
Why Sp Caps Willnot work;
Your playing a game, your doing well, your having a great time and your doing very well and you didnt know anything of an SP cap. You get to the end of the round and you look at your sp, you just went 20 and 0 or even 45 and 0 and your staring at it and boom.. small amount of sp.
Well you just did good, why arent you bathing in the holy aura of experience? Maybe its just a glitch, you shake your head in agreement with yourself, startup a new match, boom the same thing, except you did decent this match but you have a small payback.
ok what gives, so doing some research you find CCP has implemented things called SP caps, well thats just no fun, what would be the point of playing this game if you cant really play and earn things which is really the only way your going to do well.
Now your held back, now you have to grind and grind and grind and you grind and grind and grind and eventually just get enough to upgrade to that new tank , slap 12k on it only to die to AV.
now your frustrated, you just spent all this time to get a shiney new tank and now its dead, now your out 4 million isk, while that av walks away with a nice 50 wp.
Sp Caps wont work because they dont encourage people to play, infact they encourge the opposite which infact will not make a good game you realize as you see why their is no one on but protowearing super gods. All the other players left and your stuck getting bashed into the stone by someone in proto armor justbecause you did bad that one time when your sp cat reset.
Their will always be bad players and most players will feel like utter junk because they wasted their sp cap rest and now they have to grind, sound like fun? No not really, its why CCP dosent have a huge player base and had to go into open beta.
Games Like Bf3, yeah you have ranked servers and when you play your stuck with people close to your rank and your skill level and unlocks and whatnot.
In Dust514 you have no match making, your stuck with whoever and whatever and thats just not a fun game if its got randomlized chaos.
Theirs a reason Fpser's havent broken the mold of matchmaking and ranking and rewards is because its a Correct system to go by.
Say I get stuck in a match with a level 53 black eagle whatever that rank is on there. and I do badly or I do good, its all skill.
What im saying is, basically in dust 514, it does not matter what skills you have, but all how you setup your loadouts and your playing skill level. I could have the best of the best and still die to a milita kit or an LAV or something silly.
Why Sp Caps Will Work:
if they could be changed from diminishing returns to just a super large, super high cap ceiling than people wouldnt *****. you get like 80ksp a match and your limit is like 4 million, than yeah your going to get too powerful. and thus this is why Sp caps are here, to prevent people from getting to powerful.
But in all honesty isnt it fun killing the dude in protogear knowing he's just lost a ton of ISK even if it barely puts a dent in his wallet, yeah it is.
But we also have sp caps so people wont get too powerful?
Powerful? Last time I checked people are just mostly running whatever ccp gives them including exile ar's and skinweave suits.
maybe if we had match making based on your skill book, and it went by what you have unlocked and also tied into your K/d and your wins/ losses etc.
than people with protogear and ****** skills would get stuck with each other and than maybe once in a while someone high level would get stuck with people who have low skills and good gear, or how it goes in bf3.
I get stuck with higher level people all the time, but I do fairly average, I have my good matches and I have my bad matches.
problem is their is no team work in this game, even in bf3 if people run around atleast they have team work in some way, asl everykill goes towards your team or a group capture gets a flag up faster.
the problem here is we have horrible objective systems and not much variety cause CCP isnt taking advantage of whats avaiable for resources, writing messy code and just trying to link to eve.
In all honesty, who gives a kitten if people get too powerful.
That should be CCP's motto, if people are too powerful, Htfu and get over it.
in Eve, when someones too powerful and your engaged by them are you pissed at it, no you gather up your losses and go back to fighting people on your skill level.
and that is my conclusion, if its messy and wierd sorry but I had to get it down.

People will always be too powerful, it doesn't matter about resets or anything, those that have played longer than others will always be more skilled and more experienced. When the game releases the people from beta will have such a knowledge on the game that there will be a definite gap between those of new and old. The skill cap was a bad idea all together |

Exactly I fully agree with a skill point cap, I also have to disagree with the infamous "People will stop playing if they aren't getting any return" I would also have to agree with the OP the majority of times that i get steam rolled on a map its because the opposing team has 3 sets of squads all in the same corp.. If CCP could balance the teams a bit better and or fix it so people have to work with squads we could all live in a utopia of balanced fights..
I have faith in CCP though as the game grows there will be security districts NPC and player controlled, So the majority of high SP players will be put into the player controlled matches or lower security planets so it won't discourage new players..
When I play I play to win and you win by getting better quicker reaction time knowing where enemies will per-fire knowing set nade spots where to put nano hives the list goes on and on, in and out of squads especially in squads..
But then again i come from the old school thought process of gaming to play to get better (not just skill points or prestige to show people you're low life epeen you achieved in a week) I also come from playing EVE for the past 5years where you have to wait to get better you still play to earn money build team comradery and learn your enemies every move..
Sure I agree 50 / 75 with booster is way to low for post cap gain, but the cap is perfect as I posted in one of the other 50 SP threads casual players with jobs/families only have about 4-6hrs to play a night but for those weekends or days the family is away we like to nerd out and spend 8-12hours nerding out..
So why not implement 2x24hr No SP cap booster.. That we can use twice a week (or something of this sort) So we can have control of when we want to use the booster If the people that can play 24hrs a day want to use the boosters back to back sure thing but then they are back to the skill point cap after 48hrs..
Then those of us that have to plan when we play we use the boosters accordingly, if you don't use the booster you're **** out of luck..
THE KEY THING HERE IS: CCP needs players regardless if those players play only 4hrs a night or 24 hrs a day players equal AUR purchased AUR purchased equal a better game for those bitching about the SP cap.. If the SP cap was not caped new players interested in Dust514, but have no real shooter talent (like the majority of my local friends that i have referred to this game) would get discouraged real quick and go back to COD/Halo... Which has already happened because of the monopoly of corps right now Qing up 8 to 16 fold and dominating the battlefield... Don't get me wrong i can appreciate that just as much as the corp dominating the field but its not good for business especially during "Beta" So lets leave it how it is till match balancing gets figured out or different security planets get opened up |

my two cents,1. a sp cap should be implemented, and 2. people who complain about having a job and not alot of time need to stop
1. sp caps should be implemented for game length control so that ccp and the corps in eve can have some kind of control, that's understandable. my opinion would be about 40k a day, with an sp reward system after capping.
2. if you don't have enough time in the day to get as much sp as everyone else, that's too bad. the world does not run on a no child left behind policy, so why should dust? if you, like me, don't have enough time to play because you have a life/job/girlfriend who prevents you, that's your problem. you'll eventually get there, its an fps first, after all, and a mmorpg second, buy boosters, plan your skills, and dont mess around. people should get farther faster than others, its called dedication and skill. |

Lee the problem with that is that there will be no real point for the rest of us to play during the week then, I really don't care about other people's situations and I'm ******* tired of hearing this in every game forum space "what about those of us that do this or that and have this going on" then the makers of the game change it perfectly to accommodate for the players involved in that situation style causing the rest of us to complain about permanent changes made for them. The bottom line is, for those of you in special situations like having jobs & a family.... don't complain to the company to where you screw the rest of the player base over to compensate for your own life style, those of us that don't have families and are too young to get jobs are essentially ****** by those that do.
The sp cap downgraded this game entirely for me, theres no point I see for playing anymore after 5 matches when I reach the cap other than getting the isk, if you do not get rid of the cap then increase it to at least 100k a day, and the whole new player friendly **** needs to stop, new players will always get owned when going against experienced players. Come on ccp, use your ******* heads already damn you! |

WTF No child left behind policy ROFL how can you bring a political perspective into a video game especially from a company perspective outside looking in view on what would make this game successful..
THE FACT IS: that if two people with the same shooter skills play each other one can play for 24hrs a day for a week straight the other can only play 6hrs a day for a week straight the person playing 24hrs a day will win hands down in a 1v1.. Sorry if you disagree no reaction time or thinking ahead will save you from a 10% increase in armor damage and dispersion between the two weapons used..
Oh wait the guy that lost thats his fault because he can't play a "video game" (all of our hobbies) because of real life issues so you're saying he should /quit life to get ahead of that player that can play 24hrs a day ?
With the no skill point cap business motto I foresee the money raking in for CCP because that guy is having the time of his life getting murdered by that player that has lvl 5 support skills on a heavy gunner ? When hes sitting on lvl 2 because of no skill point cap.... That is one hell of a business moto and I see those players rushing to the PSN to pick up the game right now......

Step back and take a bit of a breather honestly I think you are letting your emotions get in the way of beta testing... !? (Be it CCP has said this is not the final product/SP roll out) You have to understand even with a skill point cap you will still have the advantage over other players playing past the cap... (In fact you said it yourself) So im not sure what you are so upset about... ? Also I seriously doubt that the players that can grind for the skillpoints be it 6hrs or 12hrs a day outway the casual shooters, so i really don't think CCP is "ruining" the game for that many people..
Also this is CCP we are talking about this is not the final product even if they improve or decrease the SP cap there will be more reason to play then just gaining SP through updates and expansions im sure your mind will be blown..
So like i said before Its not a "no child left behind policy" its lets try to make it as fare as possible policy so we can bring in a very large and dedicated player group consisting of casual and hardcore players.. |

second, this is an MMORPG-FPS, if some go farther and faster than others, its through their own personal achievements. better/more active players should not be held back as it decreases the want to play. just because someone has 5m sp doesn't mean they're going to destroy someone with 2m. . . its all about skill dispersion and usage, just like in eve

So because someone types in caps your only rebuttal is to try to belittle them and suggest im being immature on a video game forums to make yourself feel more viable ? ROFL Pretty sure this forum is for ranting and posting our opinion your No child left behind perspective doesn't work when a company is trying grow and not curtail to one side of the playing field so they have to make it as even as possible.. Also this game is nowhere near as balanced as EVE you can Focus train in EVE and be competitive if someone focus trains over a casual player in Dust they will wreck that causal player there is little to no dispersion in Dust sorry your point is still invalid.. |
