i say YES or at the very least make it so you can hear others that do have the mic on without the player having to do anything. i am sure this will encourage them to turn on their mic.
also ccp i spent a ton of time helping a merc last night to get his mic working because he couldnt hear me i could only text him instructions. it would be much easier and faster if they could HEAR my instructions.
PLEASE PLEASE CCP do this and i know this is a request i put a similar thread there already so please dont move this since the point of this post is to see what the community thinks of the idea of if not fully turning on mics atleast making it so new players hear mics without settings change.
so guys let ccp know what you think about my proposal |

You do realise that may be just because their voice is on another channel and they are talking to say the corp. However I see what you mean, its a good idea. |

in those cases with mic already on my idea would not apply i am only saying do this for those who have made NO changes to settings in dust yet. |

While Dust doesn't have shrieking teens, yet, it's a bad idea. And from pub matches where people have their mics on, one doesn't need to have a shrill voice to be annoying as hell. Many have it on too loud, I can hear their game through their mic, they're talking privately in-game with someone they know irl, or just have stupid suggestions. |

this really has nothing to do with my idea....you in effect are making an argument for no mics at all or to remove the stupid annoying talkative chip eating whiney voiced mic users neither would be practical nor possible really..
my idea is at the very least make it so new users can hear the people that have mics on... sure some mic users are already annoying but quite frankly not being able to coordinate 10 blueberries is far more annoying to me.
so with what you posts states it would sound like you dont want new players to have mics on by default. so my idea you wont have to hear the new players(unless they turn their mic on) but they will hear you. so actually my proposed solution should work for you. |

Im not a mic user, by choice. I tend to hear all the Mics from my corp and team without a mic plugged in. Maybe its a setting that I turned on early. In fact I wish dust had more to turn mics off .It might also be a setting in the PS3 settings itself check them out
Also sony likes its headset to be used and can make using a third party headset a nightmare sometimes. |

For everyone with the snarky remarks that they dont want to hear annoying ppl on comms, you know there is a mute function right. Heck you can even select mute all people if you find everyone annoying, also if you just want to talk to a few ppl chances are those are the ppl in your squad and you can simply just stay or switch over to squad chat.
Personally voice comm should be on, PTT off, and all players in squad should automatically be switched to team chat on initial load and those that wish to just stay in squad chat can simply switch back, this should also apply to anyone that joins a game that is in corp or other private chat.
Everybody should be migrated to team chat when first joining the game and then if they choose to mute or move to a different channel they can do so. We all know this is the best way to ensure ppl who do use mics can at least know there are others out there, if ppl choose to ignore them after the fact, that is their prerogative but at least force them into team chat first.
This is essential to all FPS play, If someone chooses to use a mic they simply assume they will hear other mic users, they dont expect to go through secondary hoops to find them and they shouldnt have to.
Additionally they need to add in proximity chat and perhaps allow for a 2ndary PTT channel for squad chat is someone want to stay in team chat but communicate with squad only or vice versa for a specific reason. |

What ^ he said. Default Voice On, PTT Off. If you don't like hearing a particular person, Mute them yourself.
@CRM234 - you must have turned on Voice in the neocom options at some point. It's an in-game thing and nothing to do with your PS3. And I've had absolutely no problems with a non-Sony headset. |

I have had two long conversations with friends who joined beta, trying to get their mic to work. This was because I forgot what needed to be done and we could only communicate through typing (without a keyboard).
-Most console games don't use push to talk. I don't think anyone I've met in Dust uses it either. not only is it an unused feature, it takes up a button on the controller layout!
-Most console games have voice turned on by default in the menu. If you have a headset you probably want to use voice. If you don't have a headset having the feature turned on wont make a difference.
As much as I'm looking forward to introducing friends to Dust, I do not want to have to walk them through the menu. |

I was one of Moon's friends. For people coming from other console multiplayer games, the expectation is that voice defaults to ON assuming you have a mic set up in the PS3 menus etc. It's really weird that it doesn't , and it's an unnecessary level of complication for people who want to join their friends and talk to them.
Also, I haven't played any other console games that used PTT, are there even any? It makes a lot more sense when you expect everyone to be using a keyboard... |

Maybe they fixed it , but remembered years ago having tons of trouble with third party mics on the PS3 and countless threads about it from other games not dust .Where i came to the conclusion screw sony im not giving them anymore money than i did. Thank you for the info and might go looking for my bluetooth headset again. |

NO it doesnt.
Why make that the default rather then forcing the person who feels "annoyed" by others on comm to just mute them. PTT is just a dumb option that really serves no purpose at this point. It makes sense if there is proximty chat but there isnt atm.
Its simple if you have a mic it should work outta the box with NO MENU CHANGES. This should be the default, if you only want to be heard when you want then you activate PTT, if you dont want to hear someone YOU MUTE THEM.
As it is now this system benefits a minority of players most of whom are like PC players where this comm setup is the norm but now you are in console land the people who want to use comms have mics. The people who dont want comms dont even have a mic and if a mic isnt detected then they can go in option and turn voice chat off...simple.
Seriously stop the nonsense and make the game friendly to teamchat outta the "box'.
My post above is the answer you are free to disagree but there isnt one point ive seen that diminishes the quality of my point so i will this one time say my opinion is right and everyone else is wrong on this.---Sorry.

Edit- The only time PTT makes sense is in PC games where you have the additional function of text chat while in game. Our text chat in game requires a soft pause so it really makes no sense at all to have it. |

Okay and again that is a smaller base, simply change the options when you first load up the game, the options save you know.
This btw is the case with every other game on market kids will get exposed to stuff they shouldnt. Not saying its right but perhaps, More to the point the simple fix is if mics isnt detected voice chat is turned off. There are also parental controls in PS i think that can filter and block chat channels i think.
My point is that the options are there for you to turn them off, why should the larger majority be forced to turn them on?

Again you can go to options and turn PTT on yourself.
See how this works the smaller playerbase that have these types of issues/concerns can use the menu options to change how comms work for them while the larger playerbase has "out of the box" functionality.

Okay well when i turn off PTT what do you do, just mute me anyway right, or you're in squad chat and you dont hear me at all. Whats the difference.
Moreover most ppl keep PTT off anyway so not seeing how your issue though merit worthy solves the larger issue that nobody uses it anyway and those that do can simply turn it on.
More to the point based on the way you phrased your sentence it sound like you dont like having comms on in game anyway, well there is the mute all function that quickly solves that issue so again i ask why all the redundancy when there are simply solutions for ppl like yourself that wouldnt interfere with the core communication functionality b/w players trying to play a TEAM BASED game.

This post would be more valid if most of the mic users would say something useful, rather than saying something is OP, or telling us how much ass they just kicked.
There were a few times when mics were actually used for teamwork- coincidentally, I don't hear those people eating or shooting. I would understand not using push to talk if the people causing all the background noise were constantly relaying useful information. |
