I have no problem with it. You get the basics of the game for free, for advanced features we have to pay. Seems right for a micro transaction game, especially when you factor in the price:
40k aurum = $20 US 1 aurum = $0.0005 US 1k aurum (price for 30 days UVT) = $0.50 US
Two quarters seems a good price to talk for 30 days since there isn't a monthly subscription to pay; pay phones charge this for a single call of like 5 minutes.
EDIT: and this is an out of combat utility which means it is a convenience factor, not game impacting. |

Is it back to 1 AUR for 30 days? or 10 or 1000 ?

Nothing wrong with using a 3rd party system - happens in games all the time. |

I have no idea if they changed it back - I got mine for 10 aurum yesterday immediately after DT and haven't checked the price again. I've heard from the forums that it was 1k now and that people were unahappy.

And then you factor in something like a corp being the size of 300 players, and you're spending $150 a month to talk to each other. You could do that vastly cheaper with some other service. |

Bought mine for 1000 AUR, figured if it got fixed I would get it back.
Lost all 7 of my merc packs, I was an idiot and terminated the avatar that had all the packs assigned to it. Sent petition to CCP to get them back. But in the mean time I have 500,000 AUR in my accounts.

I've only just joined this toon to my EVE corp last night and plan on starting up a recruitment drive, but since we use Ventrilo (on voice activate mode on a PC) we have no use for the UVT.
Will this limit who we can recruit? Only if they care enough to want to be a part of voice comms. We aren't all "super-serial" in SMERG. As long as the dudes attack the beacons when the squad brings them into matches, we'll all get along well. |

It's the collective amount. Sure it's only $0.50 to you, but that corp as a whole is still paying $150 a month together, when they could do it a lot cheaper somewhere else. |

If this were a subscription game, then a 300 man corp would be pay in the area of $4500 US per month. I don't see your point.
Also, this is not limited to your corp - this lets you talk in any channel - it isn't a corp expense it's an individual expense. I could see your argument as more valid if this was only for corp to speak to each other, then the price should be lower based on a bulk discount. |

It will limit who you can recruit. I'd imagine almost everyone worth recruiting either has or is considering getting a BT headset already. Of course there will be some who have a PC headset already, and some who will consider setting one up, but those are probably fewer in the PS3 gaming population.
I've played with vent/TS/mumble enough over the years to know that PS3 BT connection is much less likely to require driver updates, Windows tweaking, and other acrobatics. I moved to console gaming in large part to avoid the BS that goes with PC gaming.
Still use mumble with rl friends, though. Have to set my BT headset every single time since Win7 forgets the settings every single time and I end up with all audio coming from the headset. |

I help run a dedicated server that helps several communities run Team Speak for cheaper prices - so let me tell you ... I'd much prefer everyone pay a small amount then 1 person paying for all. Though with services like C3 out soon TS will be obsolete and even paying a quarter will be substantial to the many services they provide for free.

*shrug* Depends on the group. I haven't had problems getting people to chip in for teams I've been on in the past, or split it up where one person pays this month, someone else pays the next, etc. It doesn't always have to be all on one guy to provide the server for everyone. Either way, any corp that is going to have a reasonable amount of players will be better off looking elsewhere for voice comms services, as the price for the group is pretty high for individual UVTs. |

He meant that some company (CCP->third party voice provider) gets more than usually in the likes of ventrilo or TS.
But there are many points on this topic: - No voice service is absolutely free. There has to be some income for upkeep, plus some profit (unless it's private service which is motivated elsehow) - True, the voice provider may gain more than normally per user - Usually a single player pays TS3 / Ventrilo / whatever from his own RL wallet, and may or may not get any compensation. - In Dust ingtegrated voice every person does pay their own voice usage. I think that's a good thing and makes it easier for smaller corps - Dust integrated voice is easy to use and does not require a pc next to you - Dust integrated voice makes it possible to speak to strangers if needed
I would say the universality and ease of use make it worthwile to pay some extra. I find the current price small enough.
And, CCP was considering releasing a corporate voice pack which can be bought by the directors and therefore fee corp voice/UVT for memebrs |

Furthermore, you have to be on dust or eve to communicate. TS3 can work on nearly any device, and is significantly cheaper. Free corp chat was the ONLY way you were going to bring eggheads back to in game com's, which would IMPROVE the sale of uvt, but this scheme blows it. |

I have a keyboard and it does all of the communication I need outside of battle. cheaper in the long run (only pay once, often free if you know where to look).
I will probably buy a couple 1 day UVTs and use them for setting up special events. I think corp leaders and alliance administrators will need them a lot more than average grunts like me. |
