Did you just start playing? If so, it's because most players have upgraded their skills for shields and armor. They also have skills that allow them to do more damage with their weapons. They also use higher end suits and weapons. This gives them more than double the HP that you have, and they have weapons that are doing 50% more damage. It'll balance out once the reset occurs in a couple days.
If you've been playing for a while..... I can't help you. |

If you started playing within the last couple of days, you've hit on Bad Luck: Everybody have started using their top-end/most expensive equipment, or spending all of their ISK on buying high-end gear. (Reason: See various posts about "reset", "wipe" and "Tranquility").
But NAV HIV is right: In Dust it takes a few extra bullets to kill someone, making it seem hard. Run in groups, find a squad, look at getting into a Corp (Bojo's school of trades?) - everything helps. |

It takes skill, but also gear. Dust has a pretty steep learning curve, so just stick with it. Learn the maps, don't solo, be aware of your surroundings and the minimap.
Also, there's a server reset coming, which means everyone is spending all their money on gear - so you're going against the most expensive gear imaginable.
After the reset it's a clean slate, so you should have easier time getting kills ;) |

Point the barrel end towards the enemy and pull the trigger. If you learn to aim it works every time :) .
You do get used to having to hit the enemy more than in other games, after a while advanced and proto weapons start to feel really too good in fact. Just try standing in front of a proto assault rifle for more than a second or two and see how it goes. |

If your a new player my best advice is to turn on the passive SP and dont play for a month . I know it sounds nuts but if you try to play now you will just hate Dust. Dont listen to other players Dust does not have steep learning curve it has a SP curve. Only when you have SP will you be able to kill and survive, you will never be able to out aim them when they take 60 hits to them hitting you 4 times. |

Make sure you invest in sharpshooter skills. When looking at someone, try to see if your pointer turns orange, if it's white they're out of range. Ironsights on assault rifles changed that a bit but you can see it turning orange from the hip.
Zoom or not, you can always hit people if they're in range. |

Play as a logi and heal/revive people to make SP. Stay behind your squad and drop hives. Then level up weaponry, mechanics and your weapon of choice. Don't loose hope, you'll get there. |

Horrible advice disregard all of this the poster just said since with the wipe tomorrow this advice actually would harm your progression and even without a wipe it is still bad advice. As with anything practice makes perfect so although gear is a factor in Dust skill plays a more important role which is easily proven by a good player taking down advanced and proto gear using militia fits.
Play as often as you can now and after the reset and if you find that your aim is not as good as others then you probably want to spend your skill points in the beginning on defensive things like shield skills. On the other hand if your gun game is good you maybe be better off by placing more skill points into offensive skills like weapon proficiency which increases damage output. If you are an average all around player then spend skill points equally in defensive and offensive..
Like others have said in the thread right now you just happened to start the game when others are using their best gear before the character wipe which will place us all back to equal tomorrow and all the advanced officer weapons will be gone. So then things will be much easier.
Welcome to New Eden. Just as its important to dodge bullets sometimes you have to dodge stupid advice from others who obviously have an agenda.

If there is a wipe tomorrow , then play the crap out of it that day if not then in till your lvl 3 dont use anything. They dont want to admit it but practice will never make you perfect in dust when you dont do close to the damage of other players or have as many hitpoints as they do. If you come from a FPS game then you will just be frustrated day 2 I finally didnt get spawned killed and then fired on another player 60 times to get half his shields down that regenerated before my eyes. The game prefers RPG skills to FPS skills. Meaning only with grind time will you do good , not with learning to do something different.
This is coming from a FPS player for over 20 years that has 2 mil in SP versus the other players with 9 to 11 mil another player said the average Dust player has now.. CCP made it this way to slow down progression because they think FPS players only play games to unlock everything and leave , its not gameplay that makes them stay. Also its what they knew from their RPG game and copy pasted it. |

People have been skilling up their character for months now, so newcomers don't stand a chance. |

Don't go straigth to the red points that you see in the map. When you "point" an enemy you can see his/her stats (shield/armor/suit). If you're alone don't go to advance suits like type B or proto.
Try to take your enemys first from behind or cover. Find your weapon.
If you're not a great kiler, try Logi (support). You can make so much points without any kill. Just use nanoinjector, repair tool and nanohive.
If you don't like to play militia. Try vehicles.
You need time to find your "gameplay" |

The suits themselves don't have more hp. But do allow you to fit more or more PG/ PU (power) intensive modules. You can get more HP that way as one option. But not one everyone in an advanced or proto suit will have more hp.
Technicality, but suits were nerfed, last time I checked base HP is the same across the board, per suit type.
The build options are near limitless.
Edit* We will ALL be starting over again in a few days. That should help.
My one piece of advice if you are doing any sort of infantry fighting at all would be to train Weaponry to level 5 first thing. That will give a permanent boost to your hand held weapon damage for all weapons, at all times.
Then only skill up for a weapon you like (i.e. assault rifle level 5, etc.) when you have tried as many different types of the militia weapons as you can get. |

My first experience with Dust was today. Even with no trained skills and everyone else having over powered weapons (compared to the free noob equipment) I felt it wasn't any more difficult than other FPS games.
Leading your target, strategic grenade placement, use of cover, flanking, and sticking with your squad will go along way towards making it easier to kill someone, unfortunately the only way to buy those skills is with time and practice. |

Things like range do definitely matter, as does "zoom". I got very few assault rifle hits until I learned to steady it with the "zoom". Of course, that slows you down...
The comments about skills and equipment are very accurate. Dropsuits fittings and skills make a big difference. |

This was posted over a month ago. Before TQ.
At this time most vets were running proto gear and officer weapons. |
