In DUST, when it comes to the skill tree, it seems very inconsistent. As DUST has claimed to be part RPG, most RPGs have a consistent levelling where you progress at even intervals. DUST on the other hand, let's take dropsuit armor repair for example.
Militia - 2HP repair a sec LVL 1 - 2HP repair a sec but less CPU/PG than militia LVL 3 - 3HP repair a sec LVL 5 - 5HP repair a sec
As shown in the example above, the only level worth shooting for really is level 5 as you might as well stick with militia until then if you have the CPU/PG available, especially at the reduced cost. Most skills with multiple levels not based off pecentages are built in this fashion. Just makes no sense to me that militia and level 1 are basically the same, level 3 is a slight step up from level 1, and level 5 is over twice as good as level 1. To me, levelling needs to be more consistent and furthermore, it seems pointless to upgrade a level without any immediate improvement. Therefore, I think something like the following example, again utlilizing armor repair, would work out much better.
Militia - 1HP repair a sec LVL 1 - 2HP repair a sec LVL 2 - 3HP repair a sec LVL 3 - 4HP repair a sec LVL 4 - 5HP repair a sec LVL 5 - 6HP repair a sec
As you can see, there is a continual and gradual increase keeping the player motivated to keep levelling that particular skill until it is fully skilled. In all truth, what do you guys prefer; the flatline to huge step up CCP provides or the continual, gradual increase I had outlined? |

better =p Militia -2HP repair a sec LVL 1 - 2HP repair a sec less cpu/pg LVL 2 - 3HP repair a sec LVL 3 - 3HP repair a sec less cpu/pg than lvl 2 required LVL 4 -4HP repair a sec LVL 5 - 5HP repair a sec
course you have to think of the skill that you are leveling up to unlock the lvl 5 give you a bonus to repair rate per lvl so your getting "something"

Either way, Daalzebul, both your example and my example show gradual improvement while utilizing all SP levels. That is what I am trying to demonstrate should be changed. I'll leave the exact details of that gradual levelling to CCP. |

That's a bit simplistic look at the case in point. I can (and do) have 5hp repair/sec without having the lvl 5 armor repair skill, simply because i can simply fit two modules, one with a 2hp rep/sec and another with 3hp rep/sec.
In fact, i could have 6hp rep/sec or maybe more right now if i'm willing to give up some armor. I think you're downplaying the other elements, like the PG/CPU and respective upgrades and skills relating to specific modules a bit too much.

The stacking penalty should apply to those where if you have both a 2HP and 3HP armor repair module, you're not getting exactly 5HP repair. Unfortunately, stacking penalties are still broken, so you do get that result currently. In any case, I am trying to discuss the aspects with skill levelling; not what can be done based off the current skill levels. |

Funny how troll posts, nonsense posts, and posts having nothing pertaining to DUST often receive more replies than those made to actually discuss aspects of DUST. |
