Hi fellow players and more importantly developers :) I was trying beta 3 month ago and week ago i started again playing on regular bases to test out and find out what he Dust 514 is really about.
Before i write about the game I will tell you something about myself so you can decide if the informations given by me is valid or not. So here you have some quick BIO: I am 22 years old living in Czech Republic (middle of Europe). I started playing games since i was a little boy on old 386 computers :) I-¦d describe myself as more MMO player - started on Ultima Online and went thru WoW,SWTOR,GW, Warhammer, couple of F2Ps until i ended up in EVE which im am enjoying the most! Also i love playing on consoles, i have both Xbox 360 and PS3. Both i have for 4 years and played on them mostly FPS and RPG games. So now you have some info about me and can decide if you take my opinion or not.
So here are some problems i noticed when playing the game:
1) Spawning on maps: So in Deathmatch/Ambush you sometimes spawn right in your oponents face. Not a big deal but you lose your dropsuit in that second and cant do nothing with it. Its frustrating to lose eq bought by ISK or worst for real money like this. This happens to me like once or twice per game.
2) Balance of weapons and dropsuits(matchmaking problem): I am taking this from random matchmaking prespective. I have some starting fits and not much new weapons. Yet I meet people who have much more SP and ISK then me and have advanced weapons and i get killed in 0,5second knowing nothing about how it happened. It seems to me that problem is in matchmaking and in balance of suits and weapons too. Matchmaking for random people should be fixed so newcomers dont meet vets who will kill them instantly.. can be stresfull. This go hand in hand with weapons and dropsuits.. To me happens a lot that i shoot the guy and he takes like 40% dmg per shot.. and he killes me in 2 shots since i dont have advanced dropsuit - 1v1 assault to assault.
3) Mouse and keyboard vs gamepad: To be honest i hate to even think about that it can be played on keyboard and mouse.. Most players on consoles use gamepads for obvious reasons and in random matchmaking its only fair that everybody could use only gamepad since guy with mouse will have huge advantage against gamepadder. To me it takes about 0,5-1 second to aim at guy with mouse and about 1-1,5secs with gamepad which is life and death difference. Also aiming at running target is much easier with mouse at least for me. If i will want to be one of best in the game, mouse and keyboard will be must have.. Seems more like pay to win to me. And not fair. Keyboard for writing to chat yes but not for playing the game. We are on consoles after all!
4) Gamepad aiming problems: First of all i have dualshock. I hate it with my whole body i do. Thats why i use MLG Mad Catz pro-circuit PS3 controller when playing on PS3. (http://www.madcatz.com/mlg/ps3_controller.htm) The Aim helper is not good in my opinion. I may be done by not well done crosshair which is done like its for PC game. I am talking from my experience from HALO and GEARS OF WAR series where when you aim at target your crosshair turns red and when your target gets out of your crosshair it turns back blue. Its important thing for consoles and it helps aiming a lot. So think about that :)
5) Newbie peoblems: So i think all console games have some gameplay tutorial or single player PvE line whitch i almost always take as traning ground for multiplayer where is much bigger competetive ground and generaly harder to play then single player. This means that there should be some training ground for newcomers or some training matchmaking so people dont jump in regular games and get slaped by regular players. This could be stressful and make people leave at first game..
6) Textures: I noticed some textures being blurred but i guess that is beta thing.
So in the end i like where the game has gone in 3 month i havent played it. Its beta and it needs fixing, changing, polishing but its on good way in my opinion. This post is not about criticising or anything like that. I am trying to help you to make the best FPS on consoles and hope my post will help at that :)
Hope you enjoyed the reading! I welcome all comments of anykind so feel free to write your opinion or correct me at any point.
Good luck fellow gamers, Ostricker

So now today I tried to play the game with all 3 choises. Gamepad: Good moving but worst aiming of all 3 possible choises. Can hit nothing with it.
Move: Decent aiming ability but worst moveing of all 3. But thats kinda problem of whole PS Move system as i encountered it at other games I played with it.
Keyboard + Mouse: Id like to note that i was using Razer Nostromo as keyboard and Razer Naga as mouse. Pluged directly to PS system. Best moving ability and best aiming ability. With this setup i was able to actually play the game a lot better the with the other 2. Thing i missed was beeing able to set keys of keyboard to different moves. Would be much better to make it changeable. Note that with Razer Nostromo, only problem i had was that i wasnt able to crouch.. not that i needed that but since i couldnt set it to some preferable key i had no way to crouch since there is no ctrl on Nostromo.
So if you are not planing to delete mouse and keyboard i would recommend to put a sign at start of the game that says something like - For better experience plug in keyboard + mouse and play with it! Otherwise you will get slaped by players that use kb+m :)
So I hope this is constructive criticism and it will help you make a better game :) If i find anything else ill write it down and post it to this forum for sure :) |

Ok I'm having a hard time parsing your english, but I think I get the gist.
Yes the spawning in ambush maps is horrific. this has been talked to death.
the keyboard/mouse is superior in all cases when wielded by ancient PC warriors like me. I've met more than one kid that can use gamepads with a level of finesse that is scary to watch. this is mostly a generational thing, and it's subjective. There are quite a few people who tear up reality with gamepads and hate PC interfaces.
New player Experience sucks, and we all know and acknowledge it. This is the one place where I think CCP should institute a storyline themepark mode. training DUST controls and fitting for dummies. it's relatively simple to show people, but very hard to explain via experimentation unless you play EVE obsessively.
As far as matchmaking, the tiering is horrendous. It's going to remain horrendous till we have enough people online to spread the pain. But fair warning. corp matches will always be rather stacked matches. there will be no tiering system there. |
