Does SSD fix some/most of the texture pop-in or texture streaming issues? |

I'm using a Hybrid drive and it seems to help it. They load alot faster and I experience no framerate issues on the problem maps like Biomass/Comms or the Skyfire (silo) map.

I just recently got a SSD for my PS3 (a real one, not a hybrid), and while Chromosome was already significantly smoother/stable than Codex, the SSD polished it off nicely. The only thing I have to worry about now is network latency and network lag.
Not sure if I would have had framerate problems in this new build, but I haven't had a single problem like that since I got the SSD (I had framerate problems all the time on Codex).
Also loading is lightning fast too. No longer am I sitting at the match loading screen listening to my squad members playing without me for 15 seconds.
If you are able to get one, do it. You can't go wrong. Get one for your PC too, as the HDD is the biggest bottleneck with PC performance. |

it really helps out. For example in the last build you couldnt even think of using a LAV nor a dropship effective due to the frame rate issues. Sure you load up much faster but i heard from other players that the stability has in general improved with the new build. Some others still have issues. |

OH WOW!!!
This is the first I've learned that a SSD can be used in a PS3! This is GREAT news!
I upgraded my HDD from 120GB to 360GB the day I bought my Slim model because it was much cheaper to buy the HDD separate than to buy the 360GB PS3 and thought storage was the only thing I could upgrade.
I suppose I should ask if SSD works with all PS3 models or just the newer style ones? I have a 1st generation Slim and a last generation Fatty. Could I switch to SSD

It works in all versions. Awesome! I guess I'll be getting a couple extra SSDs when I head to MicroCenter next month to buy the parts for my next gaming PC build. Built my first gaming PC last year and can't wait to get going on this year's project....gonna be a killer machine! |

I put a hybrid in mine also and can second this, things have been very smooth.
It makes me hypocrite tho, because i believe peeps shouldn't be able to give themselves a hardware advantage that affects gameplay. It's going to mean that for the matches that matter, we're all going to have to install SSDs or hybrids if we want to be competitive.
That extra 10-20 seconds at the beginning of a match is a huge advantage, and corps are already taking advantage of it. |

SSD is worth every penny. I happen to know even the devs have used them on occasion when showing DUST off at expos. No amount of optimization will delete the gap. |

Couldn't you just put some of the less important stuff on an external? Perhaps even get a cheap case and use the current 500GB HDD as an external.
That's what I would do. Of course I don't know what's taking up space on your HDD so it might not be practical for you. I have plenty of stuff though that would work just fine on an external drive if I needed to downsize the internal to get SSD.
Also...don't get too overworked about it. The price of SSD storage has been dropping steadily over the past few months and the trend will likely continue just as happens with all technology (and everything else)as the newness wears off and supply catches up to demand. A 500GB SSD will probably become quite affordable over the next several months. Eventually SSD space price will probably be on par with HDD space prices now.
Or maybe something even better and cheaper will hit the market...who knows what's right around the corner these days? Technology is increasing so quickly it makes my head spin. I used to keep up on the latest tech but in the last year or 2 it's all coming so fast that it makes my tired old brain hurt.
I remember when new technology was brought to market about once every decade. Then it came in about 5 year marks which soon led to bi-annual revolutions and then yearly. Now it all advances so fast and the next big thing is old news before it even becomes available to the general public. What was the future just a couple of months ago is now the recent past....it's mind-blowing!
It's really funny when I think about how nothing ever changed or improved all through my childhood and into my teen years and on into my early adult years. Suddenly the late 90s hit, I turned 30 and now we're all living in the sci-fi movies of my youth. And this sci-fi future is rapidly turning into a something that even the movie writers could never have dreamed. |

Hybrid ain't so bad. It's fair price for mass storage.

I'll be back in america come 2014 hopefully they will be cheaper then

Check this out Enji, this is the type I put in mine and it works great. You also won't have to deal with the trim problem SSDs encounter.
