Have you ever looked at the 'Win/loss Ratio tab under leader boards.
Number 1 spot has 1 kill .14 kdr and 4387.63 w/l ratio?
I originally thought it would be based on I played 100 games and won x amount but apparently not.
Any math genius care to explain this? |

I think it is based on the winning percentage of matches. Perhaps this person is bad at the game, but has the right friends to squad with? |

W/l ratio is not a viable stat. It is more or les effected by the other players on your team. Ignore it. Do yourself some good. |

Hacks. W/L ratio should be just that: the wins divided by the losses. The fact his ratio is a decimal means he has lost more than one game, and more than two as well, since an odd number divided by 2 would have a .5 decimal. So he has had at least three losses, which means to get that ratio he would of had to win 13,162 games AT LEAST to get roughly that ratio. I haven't even played 1,000 games, let alone won that many. Hacks. |

Now explain to me the "worst" corp. It's some mining company or something like that. They rounded the W/L ratio to 0.01 this build, but last build is was a decimal so small I'm questioning how it's possible to achieve in the limited amount of time corps were available. |

I don't think even CCP knows the math that's going on with the W/L ratios. |

W/L ratio is CLEARLY bugged.
Look at the top twenty, only few games and kills and deaths, yet ratios of 4236,678 to one. Does it make sense? For twenty or so people? No.
The first genuine good W/L ratios belong to some Imp dudes I think. |

I bet these are all people who have never lost a match (because they only played a few). The actual value should be positive infinity. My guess is that 4387.63 is a hard-coded max value, so the value on the leaderboard is:
min(wins / losses, 4.387.63) = min (wins / 0, 4.387.63) = min (+infinity, 4.387.63) = 4.387.63 (because +infinity is bigger than anything)
There you go. Your question has been answered by a math genius. |

It makes no sense for that to be the coded max value. It's probably just a case of their only loss being one of those people who joins when the game is over, so they're awarded with something like 0.0002 losses for the value corresponding to the percentage of match length they were present for that loss.
1 / 0.0002279135 = 4387.63
The entire W/L board is screwed up at this point when I checked earlier today after seeing this thread. I think someone took away the denominator having a required minimum of 1. There are no more legitimate numbers on that whole board. |

Yeah, I saw that one.
However, switch to corp, then contacts and back to overall. That cleared it up for me, I thought it did anyway. Maybe just got fat fingered.
If that is the condition it is just uninitialized variable(s). Which is why switching formats would clean it up.
Also, if I am looking at Win/Loss it would be nice to see wins, not KDR (which I don't care about) and Kills (which I do). |

This is what most likely is happening, so there is this concept (which I support fully) that if you divide a positive number by 0, you get infinity, and if you divide a negative by 0 you get negative infinity, so this guy played one game, won, 1/0 1 divided by zero=infinity according to logic. |

It's pretty simple. CCP overthinks things they apply math to.
then they apply complex math to something that third grade fractions would work on. |
