Each sector (Carebear, High, Low & Null) should have a limit to the combined meta level (ML) of all items for a fit. IE, something like this:
Carebear Sec (1.0 security status) - Max ML of 0 (Militia Only) High Sec (0.5 - 0.9 security status) - Max ML of 10 Low Sec (0.1 - 0.4 security status) - Max ML of 25 Null Sec (0.0) - No maximum
So in high sec you could have five normal items (ML 2) or a proto suit (ML 6) advanced weapon (ML 4) and the rest militia (ML 0).
- Vehicles ML fits should be restricted as well but have a different limit than suits since they have different slot layouts.
This will ensure that:
- Matches are more balanced. - That more advanced gear / vehicles are used in the brackets they should be. - Skill points provide more of an advantage. - Newer players aren't always out-geared by veterans. - That there is a clear incentive for progression from higher to lower sec (you'll want to use all that awesome gear you unlock). - @CCP: That Aurum gear will be used more for min/maxing (Like it or not CCP needs to finance this game)
This can be enforced in game similar to how (In EVE) CONCORD does not allow Capital Ships in High Sec, and Super Capitals in Low Sec. Make it similar so that super advanced technology (High ML fits) are limited by CONCORD or the Empire to keep collateral damage to a minimum (Think NATO rounds in RL).

Restricting certain items to low and/or null would be better. The way bubbles, bombs, and doomsday can't be used in low, last I checked supercapitals could move in low sec. Like maybe keep officer gear and marauder/black ops hav out of highsec, faction war would be fine with them in low. Perhaps low could limit orbitals to sub-capital, and null could have the planet bombarded with dreadnoughts.
I believe it was said orbitals would not happen in high sec.
The idea of restricting by total meta level would be better for restricted matches then the old militia/standard/adv/proto. We used to have matches that way, but it broke and was replaced with the battle finder.
Fw is in lowsec, and in eve people used a lot of high meta gear, I was using tech 2 frigates with deadspace mods and faction ammo in lowsec, or battlecruiser with tech 2 fit. About same price, but the frigate was a lot higher meta level gear. |

I don't mind Orbitals. If I die to one it isn't that frustrating; I was just bombarded from f***ing orbit.
I don't like blanket item restrictions. The thing I love about EVE and DUST is that there is never the best single loadout and you have a lot of room to customize. ML limits allow people to use a fit that suits them. In highsec you can have a glass cannon fit with a Proto AR with advanced Damage Mods with everything else Militia. Or a tank fit with Proto Suit and advanced Extenders. Or you can have a balanced fit where everything is above average.
And I believe null is where its going to be at for DUST when we get to impact sovereignty by taking planets for corps. Highsec will be training, Lowsec will be fun but Nullsec - THAT is where the money will be at. |
