Also for what I can tell, BPO's wont be entirely free in the final release anyways. Much like EVE, the blueprint is only part of the cost associated with manufacturing; materials are also required. It has always been my assumption that even BPO's will require materials to produce, and thus not be "free". In short, BPO would simply save you some marginal cost because you would not need to purchase a BPC, but still need to have the materials on hand. |

Did someone else read that all our precious modules and weapons etc are blueprint copies, with blueprint originals highlighted? Perhaps in the intro video of the game itself? That would mean that both BPC's and BPO's would manufacture the physical item on the spot. Either from t-¦hin air or some limited pool of resources (that's what I thought initially first hearing the term 'warpoint' that each warbarge would be carrying a pool of nanite mass or something called warpoints)
I forget where I read/saw it but essentially yes, manufacturing happens on the spot. Considering that starships can be built in a few hours, making an assault rifle in a few seconds isn't all that unreasonable. |

My threads on features have been swarmed with people who want Pay to win. Some people on there actually want proto BPOs. CCP needs to make money somehow, and selling standard equipment BPO's is pretty much the least disruptive way they can use to get freeloaders to pay up some. Important matches will be going full proto/advanced, and the standard BPO's will just make the grinding games cost less per clone. Want free grinding gear? Then pay CCP a few bucks. Anyways, Selling one permanent item for 2 dollars will make you FAR less money than selling consumable items for a penny. BPOs should stay out of non-militia gear so ccp CAN make money. And we need as many cosmetic items as possible to cater to special snowflakes. I mean, that's what the Noble Exchange in EVE is all about.
Like the Noble Exchange? Yes, but EVE is also fueled by subscriptions, not vanity items. Dust however is going to be entirely dependent on AUR income, and honestly I seriously doubt that vanity items (especially when you can't even see yourself in battle aside from your hands) will sell enough to support the game.
If the game is going to survive, it needs to sell items like BPOs and Boosters, because I can guarantee you that the number of pink dropsuits sold is not going to be enough to keep the servers running. |
