Exactly, why add yet another pro to the other classes and disadvantage Heavies even more? |

Heavies are Doing just fine. Prone adds to the duck and cover feel of a gun fight. Dropping behind cover should be part of any war game. I could care less about any advantage it gives to redline snipers. After all, people camping behind the redline don't expose more than their face anyways.

most people have a hard time hiting a strafer. the last thing anybody on here wants is to get dropshotted. i think it's a great idea, and it doesn't make sense that it wasn't in the game already. |

So a Heavy haves a HMG or ForgeGun Explain to me how you would use that prone |

As long as the timing is handled correctly and going prone can't be used for dropshotting (but dropping behind cover would be fine, maybe a delay before you can fire after going prone?), it makes no sense that prone should not be allowed. Also the timing should differ depending on the suit you are wearing, fastest for scouts, medium speed for assault, and very slow or not at all for heavy (not that I want to nerf heavies, but how are you going to lie down with that much armor? Perhaps very slow if using a light weapon, and not at all with a heavy weapon). |

I would like the option like old socom where i can have a crouch stance where if i stop moving or creep can stay in crouched position, but if i jerk or move to fast go into standing. |

Mercs could sit down with heavy weapons, I guess, and then bum-shuffle or be dragged by an allly backwards to move. |

The drop shot issue could be avoided by having prone take some time to enter leave, and have weapon unavailable during this time like sprinting.
Heavy weapons may require a bipod/tripod upgrade to use while prone, limiting the field of fire when deployed. |

I'd be careful with that. The last "Prone" thread I saw was locked down in a few short hours by a GM because so many other threads already existed. Not hating, just saying. |

Ah reality. It is refreshing to know it will never be bothered here out in the Dust Bin.
Going prone requires a few technical items that does not appears to be considered by the OP.
Please recall that Unreal Technology Engine is the base solution here.
Video Game Graphics require 3-D skeleton modeling, animation sequences, collision detection, revising the physical model of every character with a standing, crouching and now laying prone version. There has to be two animations for it to work, although one run in reverse is used quite often. We have male and female characters which do not share the skeleton models as male and female bodies actually work differently. This would include all the Drop Suits variations. The skins have to be tested for the various transitions in the new animations which might mean tweaking skins to work in this scenario.
Additional fun work for the programming team, the art team, the animators and QA. That would include all of us, because what happens in front of every object in the game if dunder head the merc lays prone in facing forwards while being as close to it as possible? How about being backed up to it? Next to it? Left and Right side, specifically with and without a weapon in your hand. What about trying to go prone sideways in an obstructed area? Which way does the dunder's head wind up pointing? The user will say it is wrong, and write a bug report about, at least 50% of the time. What happens when a prone weapon is swapped out with a weapon that doesn't work prone? Grey out the selection options? Great. The menu people will just love the extra work.
What about sniper rifles versus swarms? They look the same but are used quite differently. Trying to use about 1/3 of the weapons laying prone are a waste of time. Of course, the Nova Nutz will be fun trying to convince that their solution isn't best even it is does block all other uses. I would love to watch Heavies trying to get up and down. Logi could use a new skill tree to assist with that, Crane Operator maybe.
I want some changes too. I want to use a railing or a wall as a rest for a sniper. I also realize that might take sometime to get done as all the things I just talked about will have to be done. Although, it is a much smaller problem set. I suspect it and maybe even going prone might be in the pipeline or the wish list but I wouldn't hold my breath for it. We don't even know if we can breathe the atmosphere. |
