So why do proximity mines suck? Who has had any luck with them? I seem to place them and then an opponent runs over them or by them with a vehicle and either nothing - _ - or very little damage is done. |

Every time I noticed someone using proxy mines, they were actually very effective, if not OP towards my LAV. They're good area denial, while the standard ones somehow 1-shotted a VERY good methana fit of mine when I didn't see them. |

CCP implemented a five-second delay because players have previously abused the REs during the precursor build. Take that into account the next time you plant explosives. On the brighter side, they are still rather effective towards preventing hackers from getting your objectives. |

Sensei was taken.
I am talking about prox mines not remote. Remote are still as good as ever. I have had a lot of trouble with prox mines though. I watched a LAV run over the section of road where I had placed 3 prox mines and it did nothing, but bump it like a speed bump (on multiple occasions). |

OH! Never mind then. I don't know anything about those. |

If an LAV rolls over a mine at full speed, it will generally only receive splash damage as it's usually left the primary explosive area before it detonates.
So a tactic I like to use is to place all 3 mines in a triangular formation with a couple of metres distance between them. When a vehicle hits one of the mines the resulting explosion sets off the other two, and then well the LAV gets vaporised, and maybe even an unprepared HAV.
Also, if I'm running with my special logi rig setup, I do like to chuck a nanohive on top of the proxy mine as well, not only does this disguise the mine, but also it sets a little booby trap for any of those little red dots that are playing the team game properly. When they shoot the nanohive, it sets off the fireworks. But that's a secret, so ssh don't tell anyone. |

Not only can they detonate to kill spawn campers, but it a shot is too far off- kaboom.
A tactic that I would say worked on me is putting a few proxy mines just over the crest of a hill. Sneaky sneaky trick that OHKed my LAV.

Now waking up an old thread ;-)
Reasons for sucking:
Codex: - Mines disappear on death. /FIXED in Chromosome! - You can have only single set of three mines of any one type /FIXED - PG/CPU cost for ADV/PRO were terrible (about 90 CPU, 48 PG) /FIXED
- Even fitting two sets of (basic) proxy mines it wouldn't let you have double the amount of the one type /STATUS UNKNOWN
Chromosome: - If the vehicle moves fast (fast LAVs) the vehicle is out of the main blast when proxy mine detonats taking minimal/no damage /IN EFFECT BUT MAY BE AS INTENDED - If one mine detonates it won't trigger the rest. This slightly helps the minefield to exist but in many cases takes away it's killing power /IN EFFECT BUT MAY BE AS INTENDED - Sometimes the mines won't detonate at all, especially in case of fast movers. /BUG, IN EFFECT - Proximity mines are very weak, by their damage or diminished by above issues. * Basic mines are weak, a set will take down an unmodified militia LAV but struggling with any tuned ones. /DESIGN, OK * ADV mines are weak, a set can take down some militia LAV's, probably tuned with militia modules /WEAK DESIGN * PRO mines have considerable effect on LAV's, many go down. A set takes some 10-15% off a shields of gunnlogi. * A set of all above, nine mines, take off some 20-25% of well fitted tank. Having all nine takes considerable amount of both fitting and work. /WEAK DESIGN
Good design on proxy mines: + Mines cannot be seen on radar but are destroyable by enemy fire + Mines are visible for infantry but hard to see for vehicles + mines are only anti-vehicle |
