I'm curious if anyone is able to get their PS3/Dust running at their PC via a DVI port. I thought I had it working before, but just tried it over Christmas and it didn't show up. I don't have a HDMI port on the monitor (24" Samsung), just VGA and DVI.
Dust doesn't use video encryption like blue-ray does, so I'm wondering if it's worth figuring out. I have a HDMI - DVI adapter I used before.
I realize this is mostly a PS3 thing, but Dust is all I play on my PS3 - feel free to disregard if that bugs you. ;) |

Yes, I play DUST 514 on my monitor, It has DVI and VGA inputs.
It's kind of complicated though, Because when you use a HDMI to DVI cable (from what I've experienced) it cuts out the audio leaving you with just the video.
To Counter this, I used this little adapter. I also run my audio through my yamaha receiver for surround sound.
Basically it goes like this:
PS3 - > HDMI - > RECEIVER - > HDMI - > HDMI ADAPTER - > HDMI to DVI CABLE - > MONITOR.
THE HDMI ADAPTER IS just a HDMI splitter, but it also stops the audio from being cut out. I think it something to do with the signal being split in the adapter- it seperates it from the DVI..
If you were to just hook a HDMI to DVI cable straight from your PS3 it would cut the audio out. Unless you used the composite cables along with the HDMI setup.. / or optical for sound)
To be honest I want to just buy a Monitor with HDMI and DVI connections.. but at the time I didn't have money, I'm in the process of saving up for one now.
I recommend just saving up for a monitor with HDMI and DVI. I'm going for an IPS type monitor 22-25'' .. I don't watch TV(much) and I prefer monitors.
if your wondering about the splitter, I'm using the MINI - HDMI SPLITTER by ViewHD. You can get it on amazon. others will probly work too. Do some research before you buy.
hmmm.. I was just thinking if you don't have a receiver.. how you'd do it... I'm not sure. I think you have to have some sort of sound system to go along with the DVI monitor if you want to do this setup.
Good Luck. |

try making sure that the PS3 is not using HDMI for sound - shouldn't really matter, but there are some wonky setups for HDMI out there (I tend to think of my home as a lab for HDMI equipment ... the kind some manufacturers seem to be missing) |

Playstation 3 has an audio optical out, it works with everything but this application unless they fixed but I doubt it. |

If you have a setup like this you can either get sound or picture but not both. I had my ps3 setup like this and use optical out but in the last couple iterations of this game the optical out never worked properly even though it works on other applications and games.
I used: PS3>HDMI>RECIVER>HDMI>DVI ADAPTER>MONITOR and PS3>OPTICAL OUT>OPTICAL IN PC>OPTICAL OUT PC>RECIVER>SPEAKERS
this setup allows me to play PC and PS3 with my super nice X-FI sound card which has 1000000x better sound processing than noobs with "gamer headsets" and turtle beach crud.
I haven't checked recently because i rearranged my house abit but the last time i tried this setup i didn't work with this game even though it worked with everything else like infamous, granturismo, netflix, and of course the ps3 dashboard. |

Thanks guys, I have some wireless Turtle Beach headphones that I use with the optical port that is sufficient for audio. I was just unable to get the video to work, but it sounds like I just needed to work on it some more.

Still no dice. Works great on my Samsung 3d TV but nothing on my Samsung 24" Monitor. |
