This is a pretty simple work around till we get a better squad leader/order system. As soon as a match starts who ever is squad leader automatically gets a defend order put on them. The squad leader still has control to set new orders just like normal. If an objective is completed the order returns to defend the squad leader. If they die and respawn (and there is no active order set) they get a defend placed on them again.
This does two things. First it automates the squad order system to some degree so there is less complaining about squad leaders not knowing and setting orders. Second, it encourages squads to work together (and find each other quickly).
This will positively affect all players. |

it would also help to be able to change who that defaults to- snipers make very good squad leaders, but having a defend order on them wouldn't make sense. Someone should be able to default it to defending say, a heavy. |

True that a better system can be made, but currently 99% of matches there are no squad orders given so this quick and dirty system is better than nothing.
If the sniper is a good squad leader than they will change the order on their own. I can live with the bad luck chance of getting a sniper squad leader who doesn't change orders if it means I have a better overall chance of being in a squad with okay orders. |

Really wish more people were using their command abilities. You can score more points and earn orbital strikes the more war points scored. Please, use squad orders. Thanks. |

The only thing squad leaders are able to do that is anything special is give orders, and the ones that don't give orders are just the same as everyone else, so having it default to defending a normal squad member that may or may not require defending isn't a great idea. |
