Evening,
I'm really enjoying Dust so far. I've been playing EVE for a couple of months so had to give it a try, and I love the added depth and complexity that the elements of MMO add to an FPS game, it's great.
My one complaint thus far, is that the Spawning mechanics are simply awful. In a game like COD, where death means essentially nothing, it wouldn't be too bad, but when each death causes permanent material loss for your character, it is utterly infuriating to be dropped, at random, in to the map with nary a thought to how many enemies are nearby...and then not even give you Spawn Protection!?
It's my opinion that, at minimum, the Respawn mechanic needs reworking to offer invulnerability for players whom have just respawned. Such protection should:
Have a base period of 30 seconds Be instantly removed if the player performs any aggressive action Be removed if the player moves more than 10 metres in any direction from the spawn point Be refreshed (I.E. reset to 30 seconds) if the player is shot, or hit by an AoE effect.
Ideally however, I'd like to see smarter respawn mechanics in general. Rather than just being dumped anywhere, the game would ideally calculate the ideal place to set you down based on the density of your own team, and enemy players, keeping you away from the enemy but trying to place you with your teammates.
I think either of the above would enhance the gameplay significantly by making it a much more enjoyable experience. Additionally, I think it would be less offputting to newer players whom might already be frustrated by the ease with which their more experienced (and therefore better equipped) opponents can kill them.
If I've missed some reason for witholding such protections, it'd be great if someone could point out exactly what those are?

30 seconds with a reset every time someone shoots at you? Holy crap that would be abused so heavily!
I say that the way you spawn on set areas in the redline is good, but the spawning mechanics for objectives could be redone.
Imo objectives shouldn't be able to be spawned onto, CRUs should be the only way to spawn closer to the objective aside from drop uplinks. The CRU would need a rework so that you spawn into the CRU like a vehicle, take a look around, and jump out when its good. Or alternatively, you spawn into a shield area that is unenterable from the outside, enemies hack the CRU and can then spawn into it, or enter it and kill any campers waiting behind.
I think that solid respawn points would be better than just random poping up all over the map. |
