So instead of having a set max range that you can't hit a vehicle one meter behind it, have the max range be based on signature radius. If you fire at a scout, their signature radius is lower hence the max range from which your weapon can hit is lower. If its a Heavy then you could hit them from quite a far. If its a LAV, you're unlikely to hit the max range. If its an HAV, fire away!
This is in addition to the original idea, if you don't like this addition just ignore it and tell me what you think about the max range thing: So in EVE, the higher the signature radius the more likely you will score a critical hit which will do much more damage than what your guns are supposed to do. So think about adding that into Dust, only to a lower extent. A heavy for example will have a x1.20 damage modifier against him. A scout would have x0.85 An assault would have x1.00 An LAV would have x1.75 An HAV would have x.2.25 *Doesn't apply to explosives, so no swarms won't insta kill tanks. |

I disagree completely. It would throw balance off completely. Scout snipers would be invincible. |

While an awesome concept as Icy pointed out it can be a bad thing specially scout sniper vs scout sniper or even a covert scout. and I have to agree that signature 'tanking' can be rather lame. |

On the other hand, the signature tanking by range described here would do nothing at close range. Unusable for capturing objectives, for example. |

The distance siganture tanking seems prone to issue as above poster have already said.
Maybe have it affect lock on range/time of lock-on weapons. Currently only the av grenade and swarm are homing. Other homing weapons added later would follow same pattern.
If shield extenders increased signature(like eve) it would increase the homing range of av grenades, distance away swarms could lock and/or the time it takes to get a lock with swarm. Maybe signature affects if a unmanned turret starts firing at you, not sure how this works?
This would help balance shield vs armour tank on vehicles.

Sig radius having an impact on crits would be viable but i'd suggest doing it the opposite way so that scouts get higher crits than heavys because of the difference in the thickness of their armour. |

One of the few non terrible ideas on the forums.
I think what is needed to make it work is -
Sniper rifles increase signature radius significantly.
Laser rifles should also increases signature radius significantly.
I think it would be good if it was based on the last firing of the weapon and then it decayed over time. |

Signature Radius in EVE has nothing to do with the damage though. It affects lock on time, weapons tracking and the ability of missiles and bombs to actually get close enough to do damage to a target. Actual damage is determined by how good of a hit you get based on tracking and also resists, skills, weapons type and ammo. Though it might work on here......I could see it being useful for splash damages. |

Actually, bigger sig radius is gained by firing your weapon and having a bigger sig radius makes you take more damage, means people standing in the open get slaughtered which is realistic. |

Actually, it has plenty to do.
So called 'battleship weapons' aka large turrets have difficulties hitting smaller targets EVEN if they're stationary. That's because of comparing turrets resolution to targets sig radius.

Having sniper rifles have a larger sig radius would negate alot of their use you might as well stand in the open. The point of a sniper is to stay hidden and shoot people make them stand out more and they'd be overrun in a heartbeat. As for Lasers you can always see where someone with a laser is there's a beam travelling from where they are to target it's kind of hard to miss if you're surveying the battle field. |

Doesn't apply to dust... In EVE your shots hitting are dependent upon the tracking systems hitting the target. In Dust the player is the tracking system. |

Yes, you can get full damage ability that way. The way he made it sound as if you get extra damage at perfect tracking, as in an extra damage bonus. |
