Got myself a ssd the other day, unfortunately it was the day chromosome went "live", so a comparison can only be done by putting the old drive back in :(
Plus points: 20 seconds to get into a match :)) Installed games load faster.
Back to topic...
Texture quality seems to have dropped across the board (in game). I can see why this would happen - less disk thrashing. OTOH it could be an ssd issue where the higher transfer rates are causing sync errors (non-homogenizing a homogenized machine) and unreal is throwing a hissy fit 'cos the ps3 can chew more data than an xbox (Epic are a Microsoft partner after all, and ue3 was designed around the 360 I believe).
Can a dev confirm the tex quality drop please.
And if this is the case can someone put a read speed test in and set texture quality accordingly?
P.s. The ssd is a 120gb agility 3 and has made a massive improvement to load times in hdd based games - well worth the -ú68 - may not work with fat ps3 according to matey in shop, but works with slim. |

I think the performance bottleneck might be the video memory, not the SSD. SSDs are great for streaming data, but the real issue might be finding a place in memory to put it. The PS3's shared video memory means every game has a different amount to work with and we have no idea how much Dust is reserving for textures and such.
I think we might just have to suck it up until the PS4 shows up. I'm just thankful they postponed the open beta and put performance first. It gave the game a chance to stay alive that long. If the thrashing and general inability to perform had carried over to the open beta, the internet would have quickly written it off and given it a reputation it'd have trouble losing. |

Dude, you've got confused with the Xbox - the ps3 uses a 256/256 split on the system ram. 256mb for framebuffer+textures+vbos and 256 mb for system memory. The 360 uses a 512mb shared pool. |

Plus, the 12gb (yes 12) ps3 slim is ssd based. No idea of actual drive specs tho. |

Scrub that, just played a different map and the textures are fine.
The map with the rubbish textures is the skirmish one with 5 bases in a cross - it's most noticeable on the south east most airport ladder.
