I think my depth perception is off, there is serious lag, or I am sometimes just that bad at aiming, but it seems to me that when I try to use the forge gun against someone in, say, assault armor, I find a direct hit does next to know damage to their shields.
I know I've occassionally been one shotted (as a heavy) by a forge gun and one time I wielded it in close quarters combat against to assault types and they had an Oh Crap moment and just tried to get out of the way instead of trying to finish me. They weren't even reloading, they just started booking it. That time, my aim was way off and I hit the slow of the hill.
Any aiming tips? Should I aim at their feet for splash damage or aim high to catch them jumping? If not aiming, then should I put a pistol in my fitting and invest in those skills or should I go back to heavy machine guns and just grind my way to full heavy sharp shooter and its profficiency.

Duuuuude. If you hit an assault suit with a forge round there is no revive for them. They just die. Like every other suit out there. The aiming of a forge at a suit is touchy at best. You can red light them and still miss. But there is absolutely no question when you hit them. It's a bit of a pain to get direct hits though. I aim near their feet if they're moving. It usually causes some animosity. Bring a good back up weapon of your choice. I prefer SMG's on my heavy... And as far as the HMG vs. Forge gun remember, weapons are a tool. Nothing more. Every weapon is valid, it just depends on how you use it. And they each have a specific role and some are more versatile than others. Good luck. |

Does it ever seem like your shots disappear occasionally when fired? The Forge Gun is more of an anti-vehicle weapon than anything. The Militia FG lacks any apparent splash damage unless it's shot right between your target's feet. Direct hits are acheivable when standing still or moving very slowly and your reticle has lit up red on a target. High ground gives you a good angle to either hit them or hit the ground for splash damage. Aim at their chest for the best chance of a hit and have enough patience to make every shot count but also know when to back off for a bit. Watch your reloads and when you engage an enemy in combat don't attempt to rush about. Plenty of players sweat a little at the sight of a heavy and their Forge Gun, you stay calm, they do the panicking. |

Crouch for accuracy. I put the body dead center of the cross hairs.

longer answer, Hell yes.
The FG is great for taking out another heavy.
Follow the other advice in this thread and you'll do fine. |

Against heavies, yes. Bigger target. I can't tell you how many times I've been hit by a forge gunner from a distance. Seems like its the only thing that can kill me. |

Honestly,
As a logibro i find Heavies with Forge Guns very non-threatening. If you know one has a Forge gun you can hid behind cover and wait for them to charge the gun, wait for the sound, and then quickly duck behind cover and they'll have to charge up again before they can fire again. They do a lot of damage but they're very precise instruments so getting around them isn't too difficult. I find HMG's a lot more threatening.
Keep the faith. |
