Interdiction is the act of disrupting enemy convoys and supply transports. If planetary districts could transport items and materials between each other, there could be a delay between a convoy leaving and a convoy arriving. During this time, mercenaries could attempt to intercept the convoy. Enemy mercenaries could be contracted to defend the convoy line. The battle would act like Ambush, except with an alternate win condition for the attacker: all the cargo vehicles being destroyed. This would likely be a smaller scale battle, lasting 5 to 10 minutes and only having 16-24 combatants.
If the attacker wins, the contractor gets the salvaged cargo and the pleasure of the defender losing it.
If the defender wins, cargo that has been lost is salvaged, and the remaining cargo is saved completely.
Either way, some cargo may be lost and any cargo that isn't lost is at least delayed.
The salvage rate is much less than 100%, maybe around 25-50%.
In order to facilitate this, convoy lines would have to last long enough for a contract to be formulated. At least 5-10 minutes, likely more. Perhaps rushed transit would cost more, and the more you transport, the longer it takes.
It might be interesting, however, to add a strategic aspect to it. I'm not sure how with a Skirmish-type battle, but in an Ambush scenario, clone reserves could be shipped from other districts in an attempt to bolster the defense.
This would likely not be a planned contract, but would be a quick contract against a planet that is already under attack, further crippling it. It could also simply be an attempt to stall the planet's industry, destroying supply lines that deliver ore and minerals to manufacturing complexes.
This system would also be particularly effective if a combatant could attack a district from another district on the planet instead of from a war barge in orbit. |

A good idea. Like your thinking, but it has some problems.
But alot more fun this would be if we could do-away this 'game-mode' thinking and just go about in a free-roam maps. In those these kinds of things would hapen naturally and not by 'pretending' or generating a match on the fly.
And also if this would be done as mentioned, I would presume that those defend convou trips would be plentifull, even too many. Any self-respecting medium size corporation would haveto have 24/7 coverage of a team to defend dozens of those convoys caonstantly.
If this would be linked to PI in EVE side and that mechanic of transporting recources on-planet, then things would be even more absurd. There would be so much convoy missions that we wouldn't be able to do them. |

There would be so much convoy missions that we wouldn't be able to do them. It's not a game-mode way of thinking. I agree that there shouldn't be all these separate battle modes for control over a district, but for different activities, the battle type should be slightly different. I agree that a battle over a district should be just that. I'm annoyed at how these different battle types would work in the actual world, but this isn't the same. And free-roam? If you mean in a combat zone where you can win a battle in multiple ways without a battle type, I agree, since that is how it should be.
Also, this would likely be as intensive on the attacker as it is on the defender, so it's balanced.
And no, I have no desire for Dust combat to involve EVE PI as it is now. It just wouldn't work. |
