Before the chromosome update, the in-game microphone symbol would slightly change its shape and color when I spoke into the microphone. This does not happen any more with the chromosome update, which also moved the microphone symbol from the left edge of the screen to the right. |

Be thankful you have one at all. I constantly think my Voice Chat isn't working because I have no speaker icon anymore. |

I have a mic symbol with a Red 'X' on it.. I'm gunna get a new mic. The official wired PS3 mic. I hope it works with Dust 514. |

The red x is only there when you have deactivated voice in the system options, it has got nothing to do with if you have a mic or not or if it's muted or not. |

hey, I have voice ON in Dust - I hear people talking on their mics, and I type back in the Chat box.
by system options are you talking about the PS3 mic options or Dust. Thanks. |

Hmm, is your push to talk option off? The red X is there usually when it's on |

hmmm.. Yes I use (want to use) Push to talk. I use speakers so I don't need gunfire being sent to my mic constantly.
I actualy just now bought the offical wired PS3 MIC from radioshack ( $25 ) on the box it says "official licensed product" with the Sony Symbol.
IF this doesn't work, then I'm thinking it has something to do with the NAT TYPE or UPNP thing. I don't know much about this but I get NAT TYPE 3 and I don't think i get anything for UPNP. I Can't change my router settings as I live in an Apartment complex where Router settings are not accessable by people who live there. we're not allowed.
edit: I'm gunna jump on and see if the mic works. I reaaaally hope it does. |

when I hold the mic key it shows the symbol in the bottom right and people hear me so.. it's great.

I didn't notice if it changes color, from what I remember it's just blue.
PTT people can't talk in loading screens ( I noticed )
the 'Z' for mic key is ridiculous, I've thrown/wasted so many grenades trying to twist my hand to the 'z' mic key. X is grenade. It's more difficult when your trying to move and use PTT at the same time. I think 'F' key would be a better choice, if it's not being used. Atleast with the 'F' key for mic you can keep moving.
oh and i hate auto talk or.. I hate to use it, no one wants to hear me breathing or my speakers blasting gunfire. |

Yes, that is my concern. That it just stays the same color/shape.
I tend to manually mute my mic (using an in-line switch on the mic cable) often during a game as a courtesy to my team mates. I do this so they don't have to hear my background noise.
Before the Chromosome build, I used the in-game mic symbol as a visual indication of my mic's status. Now we have a static symbol that takes up space but does not appear to provide any function other than telling me what I already know, which is that it recognizes that my mic is connected.
It is not a big deal, and it's not a show stopper for me - just wanted to mention it and I'm also wondering if it is the same for everyone. |
