Why on earth did we get to a point where I look at Proto gear, and then I look at Standard gear, and then I look at Proto gear and say "meh"? You nerfed Proto gear to make the game more newbie friendly, but now I don't have the feeling of "Oooh! Can't wait to get "X" amount of skills points so I can unlock "X" gear!". Now its just: "Hmm... Why should I invest points in this again?" Proto drop suits aren't worth the price for what they offer because of the Shield/Armor flattening. Proto assault rifles same thing, especially after the nerf Complex shield extenders are kinda nice considering the price to performance ratio Complex Armor plates are kinda nice considering the price to performance ratio Complex cardiac regulator is actually worth it Complex Myofibril is actually worth it Complex damage modifies are worth it But that's about it, everything else isn't worth the price/performance/PG and CPU requirments
Prototype gear needs some love, when I can take on a guy fully fitted with one with my Militia gear and still make Dust out of him (pun intended)

Don't forget that you have to have higher skills to use higher level gear, and that those skills have percentage bonuses per level. So the reduction to base damage just reduces a discrepancy that wasn't factored for before. As far as dropsuits, I wouldn't mind seeing a 20-50 ehp increase each level, but nothing like the E3 build. Back then once you got Proto gear you didn't need to fit tank modules anymore. You could just fill all your slots with armor repairers and damage boosts, maybe a Complex shield recharger if you really felt like wiping the floor with everyone. |

I already stated this in another post, but the basic mass driver vs the proto one isn't a very big difference, with only about 40 damage increase.
However, if I have proficiency level 3, that gives me a good 10% boost to damage, not to mention the complex damage mod that I use alongside it.
I don't know exact numbers, but lets say the basic one has 185 splash, and the proto has 215 splash. Now let's tack on the 20% bonus damage to the proto. That's 258 damage now because of the way I've skilled into this weapon.
So technically, I could run around with a basic mass driver and do the same amount of damage I do with a proto just with these bonuses, but having the proto gear is so much better in the long run. |
