So obviously as my name says, I like to be stealthy. With that, I'm playing around with the sniper class in the game. So I'm wondering about these couple of things:
Passive dropsuit command skill (lvl 5) = (-25%) Scan Radius Passive profile dampener skill (lvl 5) = (-25%) Scan Radius
In total that will be (-50%) scan radius.
If I add a profile dampener module to my loadout which I think is (complex: ~(-50%)) (I think), that should be (-100%) scan radius in total. Which would mean that the enemy will have to be (2x) closer to me than he normally would have to be in order to pick me up on the radar when walking around correct?
Secondly, and lastly, whenever I point at someone before I snipe them, I see the enemies name as well as other snipers that are far away. Is there a way to remove myself from being seen that way (name popping up)? Obviously if I'm sniping I don't want to be spotted. How would I go about doing that if I can, at far range, so that my name wont pop up?
Thanks for the help! |

Hi there StealthReborn,
I think you may have a small misconception about how "Scan Profile" works in DUST 514. Every Dropsuit type in DUST 514 comes with a base amount of Scan Profile, Scouts have the least (45) and Heavy having the most (65). Each one also has a certain amount of Scan Precision. Those two stats are directly co-related, but that's an entirely different matter.
Now as i stated earlier Scouts have a base Dropsuit profile of 45. The two skills you mentioned (Dropsuit Command and Profile Dampening) reduce your BASE Scan Profile by 5% per level. which means when both are maxed you have a 50% reduction added to your BASE Scan Profile.
45 X 50% = 22.5
Now if you added on the Complex Profile Dampener (25%) you would be able to reduce your profile even further.
45 X 75% = 33.75
45 - 33.75 = 11.25
Now i'm not sure but I think Running and shooting adds maybe 10 points or so to your total Scan Profile (again, only a guess based on experience) so that means your running at about 21.25. Now remember Scan Precision i was telling you about? That works in the same way Profile Dampening does. for someone to spot you on their radar they would need to match your 11.25 when your not running or your 22.25 when you are running.
So as it stands there is no such thing as "Complete" invisibility on the radar but you can get pretty close. The current Scan Precision Skill allows you to reduce your Scan Precision by a total of 45% between Skills and Mods. Which means that even with those a Scout with just the two skills and no direct module can still be invisible to those with the Skill and Mod.
Theoretically speaking it should be possible to reduce your Scan Profile to 0 but that just means that in order for someone to see you like normal they'd need a Scan Precision of 0.
Also note, that if an enemy is looking at you and tags you in TACNET that you will have you place on the map displayed with an Orange Chevron for the world to see on the HUD, Map, and Radar.
As for you second question, it's the same system. The lower your Scan Profile, the closer they have to be to light you up on TACNET. Most of the time as a Sniper the only thing your going to be spotted by are those that come to chase you. sometimes you may get lit up by another sniper if they're also in proximity to you but generally it has to be pretty close if your heavily spec'd into Profile Dampening.
Well i hope this has helped you.

The first I'm not too sure - edit:answered above.
For the second it can't be done currently(and probably not ever). With lower profile you won't show up as a red chevron as easily but you will always have your stats show up when a weapon that's in range is over you(but not weapons that are out of range). |

There's also a note worth considering, I have not confirmed that this system is used in Dust but it is used in EVE so all things considered CCP may employ it within Dust as well. Example follows, all numbers fictional.
Scan Profile of 100 Passive dropsuit command skill (lvl 5) = (-25%) Scan Profile now 75 Passive profile dampener skill (lvl 5) = (-25%) Scan Profile now 56.25 Profile Dampener Module = (-50%) Scan Profile now 28.125
In essence each % reduction applies to the remaining amount present not to the starting amount. I want to reiterate that I have not confirmed this mechanic within Dust, but it's something to keep an eye out for if things seem to not be adding up.
Cheers, Cross

Yeah I forgot to do the whole math thing with my scan radius. I'm using an assault suit instead of the scout suit because if I get caught by another sniper, I'll want to be able to take a hit and get out of sight if I can.
Another positive is that the scan dampener modules don't have stacking penalties. So I can double stack two complex dampeners along with dropsuit command and profile dampener passive skills and end up with a pretty good combination.

To remove yourself from being seen that way, just lower your sig profile.
The sig profile on some dropsuits can be high enough that it actually extends past people you may be behind. For example: a heavy tried sneaking up behind me (silly silly heavy). Because of a friendly on the mic, I knew they were heading my way when I was sniping, so I was watching my radar. Ofc, when the heavy got close up behind me, their sig profile was large enough I could "see" them behind me and react quickly enough to survive the situation. |

Be wary my friends, of the Stealth Heavy.
Nothing is colder than the icy-death grip of the grim reaper when you hear the screeching sound of the rotating barrel on the Heavy Machine gun. You have no idea where he came from, he was just there. You may hear the screams of your allies before you, you may look to your radar for a sign telling you where you can run to safety, but alas there will be no Red Dot on your Radar. In it's place all you see is the Blue Dots around you fading one after another as you await your turn...
I swear after a while you start getting paranoid. Good thing we're immortal!
