Plain and simple I believe my mercenary after collecting the experience of countless battles he would have the ability to dive roll out of harms way you know? I mean its kind of annoying to be shooting at someone and you see an lav speeding at you and not really having the ability to get out of the way.
These are immortal soldiers we're playing as and I don't see why I can't evade things. My proposal? give each suit its own dodging ability such as the assault suit getting a dive roll, the scouts getting some sort of flip, logis slide out of the way and heavies could crouch down and flip the lav over their heads sacrificing their entire shields and stamina while the other suits would only sacrifice stamina.
It's just a simple idea that I'm sure others have probably wished was implemented somehow. I'm open to suggestions/criticism etc. we're here as beta testers to make the game the best it can be let's work together to make Dust 514 one of the most ridiculously unbelievable shooters the world has ever seen |

I figured a very simple way to implement it, improve something we do reflexively, AND partially prevent an annoyance. What is it?
Whenever you try jumping in a direction other than forward (or a diagonal forward), you'll roll instead. Right now, for whatever reason, most people have a reflex to try jumping sideways to strafe quickly- rolling improves this, and looks less silly. This also prevents bunnyhopping to a good point, because you wouldn't be able to shoot while rolling. Perhaps you would also be crouching after each roll to prevent spam (Also can't roll while crouching) |

or make the dodging mechanic somewhat like it is for resident evil when you aim down your sight if you press x along with a direction you'll roll depending on which direction you input its simple as hell. Also it can't be spammed if it's linked to your stamina. |

I like this idea, and many others have posted requests for dodging, sliding, rolling, diving, etc.
Im a little skeptical about it to be honest. Although it has certainly been a point of interest for games like gears of war and killzone I'm not convinced dust is really ready for something like this. We still have quite a few problems to address in the core mechanics of the game. Simple things like ads and aim sensitivity / deadzone still need attention. It's drastically improved over codex, and should again be updated soon as chromo updates were delayed, but once we have a firm grasp on these basics its time to start worrying about these embellishments.
I would rather cope with bunny hoppers and absurd strafing rather than see a poorly implemented roll/dive system put into place by ccp. |

Sliding sounds like a practical way to evade. Although rolling and flipping in a fps would be..."bothersome" for lack of a better term. Plus, for EVE lore/realism, you wouldn't know the type of gravity each planet has, which makes the rolls and flips rather confusing. Jumps are allowed probably due to the simplicity of the motion and direction of force applied to the suit (but this is another topic to discuss and has nothing to do with the suggestion)
How about, in order to slide, the player must be sprinting and then either press/hold or double-tap the crouch key. The move shouldn't be suit based and everyone should be able to use it. But, the only difference is the stamina usage by the dropsuits. Assault would use less stamina then say a Heavy, and Scout would use even less then both.
The evasion distance would be up to CCP to control, but the keep things "fair", no longer then you can jump.
It's good for quick cover behind boxes or crates you're running towards. You can not fire your weapon or do anything whilst sliding. In addition there would be a delay (both time and animation) before you can fire your weapon, leaving you somewhat vulnerable if used at an "inappropriate" time. This helps prevent spamming of the slide, making it a "think before act" choice. |

I agree. We need some sort of dodging action(s). CCP unknowingly admitted to that when they put a mercenary sliding in the trailer. I do not think, however, that it should be something that heavier dropsuits are good at. Real-life soldiers aren't particularly effective at that, nor are they trained at it vigorously, because they have so much weight on them in combat that it's more of a burden than it should be. They can do it, I'm sure, but all that weight must make it harder and less effective than it could be. |
