I read all over the forums about people complaining that snipers aren't team players. Well I would like to be different. So what would some tips for using my mic be? I've warned team mates when there's incoming red dots on objectives, but that can't possibly be the only thing that I can do. |

Long range and precision scanners will help you identify "red dots". You should also be on the look out for any aerial vehicles, i mean who looks at the sky when Joe Blow just blasted through your shield. Only thing i can really think of is to identify enemies by means of radar or down the scope. Also don't forget if you're a squad leader you can give orders to your team mates helping identify primary objectives and helping the overall outcome of the match. Of course there's always headshots ;) |

As a squad leader a sniper can be handy iding targets. Keep a squad order down on your squad mates and tell them to hit objectives you can see and then provide them with cover.
Basically snipers working with a squad are overwatch.
Just because people usually default to sniper work when there on there own doesn't mean snipers cant be team players. |

You probably should let a corp train you. IMO snipers are best when they run with their team- they also do good damage to hard-to-kill targets like heavies. Snipers have good range (duh :p) so you'll be able to engage targets from a distance that other weapons may not be able to.
If you're one of five snipers fapping off in the hills, you're useless no matter what you say on your mic. Not that there's anything wrong with mass fapping, I do it sometimes in pub games too, but just know that you're probably not helping your team. Maybe do it if you want to leach some WP while you make a phone call or something :P. Sometimes having one sniper covering two+ objectives is good, but I've never been in a (pub) game with only one sniper before. |

Thank you all for the good advice. Since I posted this I've learned the wonders( and fun) of playing with an HMG. I still snipe when were getting slaughtered, but I find myself using it a lot less. I do eventually plan on joining a corp, but hope to gain more experiance on my own until one catches my eye. |

You realize that Long Range scanners are a vehicle module? And that the Personal Scanner is equipment you have to have out and active (i.e. in use) for it to scan around the player's location...
Anyway, snipers are very useful for calling targets, sighting them, even if you can't get the shot, will make them appear on teammate radar which is wildly useful for teammates walking into a blind area.
Other than identifying enemies, as well as taking out or at least weakening opponents, snipers need to be checking opposing sniper positions in order to counter-snipe. This is something a lot of snipers fail to pick up on until someone starts shooting at them. I've been in so many battles with snipers from both teams, shooting into the fray or picking off ground forces, sitting right across from each other, even right next to each other, never once bothering to check their area (the first huge mistake) in order to stop enemy sniper fire. Even if your own team sniper goes down in this situation, at least some teammates can pick up on a sniper's position and be able to avoid him or take a small fire-team to take him or her out. |

Me and my fellow corp mate decided to squad up and we all went sniping from one point enemys came from the front the right and the left if we did not have mic and could not warn each other we would be dead and the team would of had a harder job taking the objective |

I came up with the same idea now that I have a mic- all I'm really doing at this point is calling out enemy movement and positions, while taking out what I can. |

I don't mind having the occasional sniper to back my squad up or call out targets for us to take out and provide overwatch. However in the case of last night literally half my team was sniping on one of the new maps while my squad and a motely collection of randoms tried to take the objectives. We could not hold the objectives due to the lack of reinforcements and thus all three fell into enemy hands. Even so the snipers kept doing their own business.
This is the only thing I dislike about snipers. A nice chunk of them do not care if their team wins or loses as long as they can get a good kill count. Thus I only wish that snipers would, when it comes down to it, Pick up some form of a combat gear and go down and assist the team. This game is based off of TEAMWORK which I found only occurs with people who have that kind of mindset. Hell even running the occasional logistics setup with a Nanohive and Injector works. You can even put a injector on your assault suit and be ten times more useful toy our team.
Enough of my rambling. Snipers are fine as long as they can use better judgement to further the team's progress whether it be having a mic or being selfless and picking up an Assault Rifle or something they can get down and dirty with up close. |

Progress so far: "E, B, and D are all open!" *whole team continues to fight around A and C, until I just walk in myself and get enough WP from hacking alone to land me on the top of my team's leaderboard at the end* |

For my advice on this subject i need two separate categories.
Those in the Squad that are NOT the sniper.
When the Sniper is relaying information, try not to interrupt him or continue to talk. If your all talking at the same time, by the time he manages to relay the information, the information may become inaccurate.
Squad Leaders keep tabs on your sniper at all times and if you see an enemy sniper or someone approaching your snipers position, let him know so he can either move or counter.
Do not do anything to draw attention to your Sniper, they have a hard enough time as it is.
Do not complain when a Sniper "Steals your KILL" if your lucky enough to have a sniper talented enough to shoot an enemy your firing at chances are you don't want to berate them for doing their job. Chances are they've also saved your kitten more than few times.
Do not try to defend Snipers physically. They don't need somebody around them drawing attention unless your there to drop off ammo and then leave.
Those who are Sniping while in a squad.
Try to relay information quickly and accurately in a calm and clear manner.
avoid using simple directions in relation to your squad such as 'To your left, or to your right." chances are even if your trying to guess which direction your squad is facing it's just going to cause confusion. Instead, relay your information in relation to the map, such as "Enemy HAV to the North East" and if you can use Objectives as land markers such as "3 Enemies incoming at Bravo".
Try to avoid using names of your squadmates when relaying info unless you are 100% sure that your relaying info to the correct individual. Calling out "HEY WATCH OUT BEHIND YOU" when your squad is scattered is going to make every person in your squad stop what they're doing and turn around. This simple mistake can be avoided by again using Objectives as land markers. "Whoever is at Charlie, you have an enemy closing in on your position." as an example.
If there is another sniper in your squad, you have two options:
-Either coordinate your equipment with each other and stay in proximity.
or
-Stay at opposite ends of the map and try to see as much as you can as a collective.
If you have a nanohive you can ask your other sniper to bring either Drop Uplinks (to respawn on that high hill in the even you are shot) or a Nanite injector (same reason as the last only without the spawn part.) in addition to your own Nanohives. There is no point in having two snipers at the same spot otherwise.
If you locate an enemy sniper on the field, inform your team about where he is and, if you can, a route they can travel to avoid his line of sight. If you can tell where a sniper is you can avoid them.
Well that's all i have for now. If i think up anything later i'll come back and make some additions.
Keep the faith. |
