I have now attempted to update eight times with no success.
When launching from the XMB, I receive a update required message. I then accept the dialog and download the update. The download takes roughly 10 minutes and begins to install. The installation fails at roughly 70%. The Dust icon is replaced by a corrupted data icon, leaving me no choice but to delete the icon and download the Beta from the Downloads list in the PS Store. Attempting to launch from the newly downloaded Dust icon takes me right back to the same failures as outlined above.
I have rebuilt my PS3 database and did a file restore from the Safe Mode menu. My PS3 is in the DMZ with a static IP. I have had no other issues downloading updates recently for other games installed on my PS3. I have deleted my Save Game data for Dust. I have power cycled my router/modem and my PS3. My PS3 is connected via wire.
I am a Playstation Plus member so I let auto update download the update last night and tried again this morning. Selecting the Dust icon resulted in a message that version 3.03 was found. The installation began and again failed at around 70%.
At this point I am out of ideas. I have read the other threads in this forum as well as the Playstion forums concerning failed installations.
Will the Playstation Store be publishing the most current client any time in the near future to avoid having to update?
I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thank you.
UPDATE Friday 12/20
After giving up yesterday and uninstalling Dust entirely I turned on the PS3 and lo and behold PS+ downloaded and installed the update this morning automatically. The problem now is that the XMB icon for Dust launches into a black screen. So still no update. I attempted to download the beta again from PS Store and it tell me that the newest version is installed. So barring any further suggestions, I'm going to delete the newest version (as much as that pains me) and install the old one then allow PS+ auto update to do its thing in the wee hours again. Will update post when more info is to be had.
I'm taking the time to inform on this post in the hopes that somebody can either give me a good solution or if and when I get this sorted out my experience can help somebody else.
Update Wednesday 12/26
I am trying daily with still no luck. I have re-accomplished each of my previous troubleshooting steps. I have found a new wrinkle though. PlayStation Plus downloaded and installed the update last night with the PS Store Beta client not installed. The XMB icon shows the Dust launch icon but when I try to launch it the PS Move warning comes up then the load fails and goes to a black screen forcing a restart of the PS3.
It should be noted that I have successfully installed two other games from the PS Store (thanks, Mom, for the PlayStation Cards!). This leads me to believe that the problem is with the update itself rather than PS Content Delivery Network. I wouldn't say I've been obsessing over this issue but I am Googling daily to find out more information about this issue. From the many posts in the Support forum here I gather I'm not alone. Would I be remiss in asking for some sort of official word on this matter? |

Judging by the large number of topics posted on this topic I would say that you are not alone. I still haven't seen any response made by the Devs though. |

I have now followed most of your steps too. And it downloads fine until it tries to install then gives an error code and won't let metry again. The file is there but no icon to install the only choice is to erase and try again this will be my 5 time today. |

I really do want to like this game. I FULLY realize this is in beta. I would like the opportunity to help out with the beta testing. But unfortunately this isn't possible for me and all these threads about update failures with no acknowledgment let alone a response are rapidly souring my taste for this game.
I won't go all drama queen and compare my experience with this game with other, more mature titles. But it should be noted that these issues unless addressed will seriously undermine CCP's efforts to produce a game that will be chosen over games that are able to provide not only an enjoyable gaming experience but a low maintenance, hassle free installation and update process.
So I will continue to engage in what I've heard of as insanity:
Trying the same thing over and over with the same parameters and expecting a different result.
Off to make today's attempt. |

I don't expect this will help the OP much, but I want to put it out there as a reference point since I seem to have had the same or similar issue. Maybe some value for troubleshooting?
After a couple weeks of withdrawal, err, vacation, I started the update process before going to bed. The next day, I found the download had apparently finished, but the installation stalled at 68% complete (sounds familiar right). There was no error message, it just stalled. I had to unplug the PS.
After the system checked out OK on restart, I left it for a day or so. The previous installation of Dust was showing "corrupted" and I didn't try to run it.
Today I re-downloaded Dust 514 from my Playstation Store download history. Unlike the OP, I do not have Plus, I had a Mercenary Pack. Not likely relevant info, but I don't know if there's any difference in how the software is installed.
After successfully downloading and installing the game, I deleted the corrupted one. It was showing 6999 MB file size. The 'fresh' copy was less the 3 GB at this point.
I started the new copy up, and proceeded with the update. Everything worked! Curiously, the reported file size is 4061 MB now.
So the previous updates were not cleaning up data properly? I'm wondering if there is an issue that isn't being handled because it wasn't tested with all the sequential upgrades that have happened.
Again, I doubt this will help the OP much, sorry I can't say I found a fix for ya. If there's anything I did differently from what you have tried so far, maybe it's worth a shot though. Good luck! |

Thank you, Brundel for your input. I had pretty much given up until the updated Beta client was released on the PS Store but a few days ago I woke up to find that the update had downloaded and installed correctly.
I have no steps that I can point out as working for me. Unfortunately it seems that redownloading again and again and hoping for the best is the solution. |

I like the idea of leaving the bad copy there while trying a new download. It might be just a marginal sector on your HDD that is continually reused because of overwriting the file.
Let us know what else you get the inspiration to try. |
