Dear CCP,
I like the new build of DUST, I think it's an improvement, keep up the good work.
Here is an idea for how to build a PVE mode for DUST which would link in with EVE and require very little programming time, hope you like it.
So a team of DUST players can log in and turn themselves into an item in EVE (just for transportation), an EVE player can pick up one of these teams and then go and scan down an exploration site.
In the exploration site there is a station with a container and if you put the DUST team in the container they get to enter a station (simple map) and fight off waves and waves of drones in the PVE style you are considering.
After every wave of drones the DUST players get some loot and a can is jettisoned from the station which the EVE player can pick up, probably while they are fighting the rats and watching for pirates.
At the end the EVE player can pick up the DUST team from the container again and take them to a new site. If the EVE ship is blown up then everyone loses their loot, DUST team included.
It wouldn't take too much programming, I don't think anyway, all the objects considered exist in the games anyway, and would allow a lot of interaction between EVE and DUST players.
Any feedback appreciated. |

They already have a semi-prototype for EVE for that. With the ability for capsuleers to have multiple teams going in. Even to include opposing ones. |

Do you mean the fanfest trailer? I think, unfortuantely, that was just that, a video.
Though I really do hope they are working on it, I think that is the strength of DUST, not what it is now, what it can become. |

Even this would require a LOT of programming time. It's also slow, and dust mercs would be waiting ages to see any action this way. They'd spend far more time waiting for the eve guy to find sites than they would actually playing.
Besides, what's wrong with 16-32 player co-op against relentless waves of NPCs? Just wait for infestation mode to hit. |

This is really interesting don't get me wrong, but there are a few things to consider. 1. It should be involved 2. Think of the Servers 3. Don't go too far down the rabbit hole
Instead of having to be physically transported, it'd be easier to have this as an NPC contract, with two opposing NPC's involved.
So now, you magically are transported to an NPC ship, that would pretty much be for effects. You could fight CPUs or Players. Should be based on a random map generator operating on boundries and binary rules (yes/no) (I have limited knowledge of Computers) so that it's always fresh.
Player corps may get tricky because what if you get screwed like I hear happens a lot in EVE? What if they were to just suddenly leave after you jettisoned the loot? Well you'd be stuck, and worse, wouldn't be able to get revenge unless you had a viable connection to EVE players. How could Dust players even prevent them from being destroyed should they be loyal? You'd be completely reliant on the EVE player for their own security, which means that there's nothing you can do to prevent them from being destroyed, there fore wasting your time for nothing. That's why NPCs are probably the way to go.
But I'm all for exploration/colonization/space battles/EVE Manipulation in Dust, but we must think about future issues as the Mesopotamians did with their irrigation. |

I, personally, am totally in favour of EVE players being able to take you out to a station and leave you there to get hacked apart by the machines. It would be hillarious. As long as there were some way for the dust players to get their own back it would be a great feedback loop.
Like rather than jettisoning a loot can they could jettison a can with a bomb in it which would blow up your ship if it picked it up. That way both sides could screw the other if they wanted.
Also maybe you could signal your location to other EVE players, so you could give pirates the tip off if someone screwed you over.
That's all a bit pipe dreamy though.
I think this would be quite a lot of work, but that's the thing I'm most excited about is the constant improvement. Linking the worlds will be a bit scary for both sides but deeper interaction means deeper gameplay, development of meta-game etc.
It's gonna be sweet. |
