I found my new love today, shotgun scouts.. so I started investing SP into it.. any suggestions from those of you who have been doing it for a while? I've just been using the free HK4M shotguns I had a ton of, which has been very good.. but they're not unlimited. Do I need to break down and invest in speed or stamina mods? I can use damps and naturally complex damage mods also.. but typically go with shields. Suggestions welcome.
Thanks to all the heavies who let me beat on you, and especially the one I circled 2-3 times, unloading countless rounds and who still killed me. Either I missed a ton, or you were in proto everything. |

Don't use shield extenders if your going for a sensor dampened scout. Shields increase your signature radius. |

Do you know by how much? I know it does in EVE, wasn't sure if they translated that over or not. |

militia shotgun is OP and you can OHK anything but a heavy kinetics make you sprint faster... the others make you sprint longer and recharge stamina faster.. i would recommend shield extenders and regulators to charge your shield up quickly if you do get hit...
i'm not a scout but just some things to think about i have played with my dragonfly and HK4M before as well though. i'm not a shotty fan, but thats been a few builds ago, like when they were introduced.

I'm not sure by how much- on my alt I have 3 separate fits- 1 that is sensor dampened, 1 that runs really fast and 1 with more shields. |

I run a shotgun scout while currently training for hav tanks. basically because I don't have to put any skill points in to it to be effective. I run with a dragon fly dropsuit, I have basic shield recharger and a militia armor rep to help with survivability if you have toxic sub machine gun add that and add some grenades. I currently have a 2.0+ kdr
Being a shotgun scout you cant run straight at an enemy you will die because you have no range. You have to flank or guess where they're going and go there. If you get caught in a firefight move side by side and jump a lot. The key is to keep moving.
if you call in your lav drive around looking for red dots, once you get close either run them over or jump out shoot them and jump back in and repeat. It's called a murder taxi.I hope this helped. |

For me, stealth and speed are the way to go. Profile dampeners are my friends. Sneaking round to find a good spot for a drop link by an enemy held objective is cool, as is popping up behind snipers who are too lost in their sights to look around. |

Yes speed, stealth, and your shot gun are the most important things for a scout shotgun. Try training these type of skills. |

Oh, and try and work with your team. If your squad can keep an enemy's attention you can flank them nicely.
Long range scanners are also a very useful skill to improve, it lets you see your enemy on your radar earlier, so you can plan your route to them while breaking cover as little as possible. |

Thanks for the ideas all.. I think the shotgun I'm most interested in is the one with longest optimal range. I've been playing kinda suicidal, with a big shield buffer and just diving in and melting faces.. I've even closed range face to face with HMG heavies and won, or nearly won, mostly due to moving around like a madman. I'm just not sure if damps or 5-10% speed boosts is worth losing a lot of shields. Perhaps if I play cautiously and try not to die (always a good thing) they would help, but I may just have to try them and see how they work with my playstyle.
My damp and dropsuit scanning skills are level 3 or so to all of them, I'll look at my range and see if that's got anything.. and slowly work those up also. Man I wish we had cloaks. |

run militia shotgun. the skill doesn't increase the range and decreases the area of effect, and does the same damage as level 1s for fraction of the price.
it doesn't get the benefit of shotgun proficiency but if you get behind a dumb heavy it will one hit kill them. |

It's certainly worth playing around with different fittings for different roles, I've got a few scouts I use with different modules and equipment. The stealth drop link is the one that I tend to use the most, but the ninja injector, to sprint in to a fight and pick people up and the uber hacker (my other suit's a Logi) also have their places alongside the sniper hunter.
Have fun seeing what works for you! |

Yeah I'm a pro w/ uplinks, and now am loving the healing nanohives that give triage bonuses.
Shotguns are definitely powerful, even the militia.. just figure that more power is better for the times I'm just barely in range and having to spam since they see me. Ya can't hide every time :) |

I recommend that you get a specialist shotgun and a type-II scout suit. With the lowered cpu useage of your shotgun, you can get an uplink and remote explosives in your equipment slots. Buy a basic cpu upgrade and codebreaker, and you have a hacker suit that can hack null cannons fast, defend them with remote explosives, flank the enemy team and spawning your team on your uplinks. It's an awesome loadout, and very team focused. |
