This is pretty repeatable on my machine.
If I have both Dolby Digital and DTS enabled in the Sound Options for the PS3 in XMB. The game will load with Dolby Digital sound output via the PS3 to my surround system and ignore the fact that DTS is enabled as a system option.
The only way to force DTS sound output is to disable Dolby Digital in the Sound Options for the PS3 in XMB.
The game will then launch fine with DTS. Usually other PS3 games recognise when DTS is enabled and auto switch via software in the game on startup. |

I can't imagine this game having DTS, not yet at least. By deselecting the Dolby Digital option, you are just forcing the PS3 to output in DTS.
Kind of like how when you deselect 720p in the XMB and games play in 1080p. The game isn't actually doing 1080p, the PS3 is simply upscaling it. |

Why would you want DTS over DD, i thought DTS is a virtual surround, is it cause the game doesn't yet support DD? |

DTS is usually a higher transfer rate than Dolby Digital so is generally higher quality with less compression, this game supports DTS so this is a bug imo. Most games which don't support surround sound at all just output 48khz or less stereo PCM.
DTS is not a fall back position, its superior to Dolby Digital.
Most first party games use DTS over Dolby where possibly, Infamous, GoW etc. They always run in DTS if possible and only utilise Dolby Digital if DTS decoding is not available
For non-HD sound DTS is the best the PS3 can output.
Can a dev respond please? |

I'm not a dev, but this seems to be an unreal engine bug - most games check for dts first, then dobly - not ue tho (I think the ue devs must be shareholders in dobly, but more likely it's 'cos the Xbox doesn't do dts, so the ue devs don't know how to do it properly)
Actually it's not a bug - it's been there too long - it's a feature.
Temporary fix: Before starting dust, disable dobly in sound settings After leaving dust, reenable it.
P.s. I believe the ps3 does dts encoding in hardware - that's why the dts logo is on the front of the machine.
* I know it's spelled Dolby. |

Yeh that sounds about right actually as Batman Arkham City exhibits the same problem (that to is UE). As for the work around yeh that's how I get around it. So its not possible to fix this 'feature' then? |
