FF would be okay with the appropriate penalties for any damage inflicted to friendlies. World of Tanks has an excellent system to emulate for this, as like in Dust, when you die in WoT it costs you credits. The bottom line is that retards like the above, who dream of TK'ing people because they think they are the ones who decide how other players play the game, need to be appropriately punished for their stupidity. Fines taken from their wallet and given to the people they kill, designation as a team killer and made an open target for anyone on any team to kill and get credit for, and finally, temporary and eventually permanent banning from the game.
Friendly fire is nice because it adds a bit more depth to the tactics to be employed. Friendly fire is bad when people use it to maliciously kill their team mates. So to achieve the former without the latter, sufficient punishment needs to go along with egregious TK'ing. If that's done, I think FF would be a valuable addition to the game. If it isn't, then morons like the above will ruin Dust as teams end up more concerned with killing each other than with killing the enemy team. |

So TK someone and get no kill/WP/SP/ISK credit fine. But penalties, if any, should be based on sec status of the area combat occurs in and banning should never be considered.
I kind of didn't want to write too much so I left some details out. I think the WoT system is basically perfect for Dust. That includes the exceptions. So, you wouldn't be punished for team damage/killing in any kind of corp battle situation, if you harm corp mates or people in a pre-formed squad with you, and that sort of thing.
But if you want friendly fire for Instant Battle stuff, which I guess would be "high sec" in the contrived EVE analogy people keep using for whatever reason, you need to have a serious way to deter people from repeatedly TK'ing. We'll have free rifles soon, we have free dropsuits. What would stop someone from running around in militia or free gear and just TK'ing repeatedly, without their account being at risk? Just make an alt, TK in free gear, etc.
If the only concern people have is not getting ISK or SP, friendly fire would be a failure. Team killing would be rampant. You'd need to have temporary suspensions at least, permanent most likely. If that doesn't jive with what CCP wants to do, then just leave friendly fire off except for corp wars stuff. It'd be better to have no friendly fire than to have friendly fire easily abused because there aren't real measures to deter malicious team killing. |
