I was wondering if there is a skill that affects how big the radius of your line of site is. Ie: When I look through the scope, if I am not directly over a target, it doesn't show up with a carrot over it. Is there something that can be trained up to make the targets show up more easily in the scope? |

Not really, closest would be Long Range Scanning.
Edit: Reread post: most of those skills are under Electronics. |

Long range scanning, scan precision, also run a set of the merc scanning range boosters (think they give +25% each) |

and than do the one lowers you profile, so you can die less. |

The range mod is a low slot item, if you have invested in the skill for the scan dampners, they are mid slot items, so you can run those too |

This thread seems to imply that these skills would have absolutely no effect on spotting ability. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=425584#post425584
If it ain't under the crosshairs (ok, pinpoint dot in this case), it don't show up. Does that change in some way with scan precision? When looking through the scope of a sniper rifle, there is no range limit, so how would long range scanning have any effect? |

That thread doesn't say anything you seem to think it says.
Enemies in scan range and line of sight (NOT just under your crosshairs, ANYWHERE in line of sight) compare their scan profile to your scan precision for the current range. If their stat is better, you don't pick them up. There's a range modifier on scan precision, so the closer a target gets, the more likely you are to pick them up. If you centre your crosshairs on someone, that person will ALWAYS light up for you (and therefore, your teammates) as long as you keep them in your sights.
The thread you linked is about active scanners specifically, and the fact that they aren't working properly. Also, it's incorrect and they don't do what that thread says they do either. |

Profile Analysis may also affect how red-dots show up in your LoS as well as staying on radar once going behind cover...
The whole profile system is a bit of a muck at the moment. |

So, then, I guess the question is, "Is there anything that will take the scan range out to 1000 yards?" |

scan range is 15m except for scout with 25m.
The range an enemy you are looking to show up is different. The cross hair doesn't need to be right on, just close to make them show up. I have no idea if the scan range and/or precision have any affect on this. The range for making the suit hitpoints and type show up is affected by sharpshooter skills, so they may affect the range for chevron when looking at enemy too. |

Dude... 3lmer is gonna spec into scanners next week, so I'll be able to tell you specifically the effects, if you're patient enough to wait. = D
I've decided they may be more helpful than 3 more damage on my pistols. |

The honest effect of most of scan-related items is diddly. They're pretty thoroughly busted at the moment, but the idea is sound if it can ever be made to work properly. |

Take it from someone who is lvl 4-5 in these related skills, they do work. But if the enemy has upgraded profile dampening skills/mods, they will most likely evade detection(as they should). Only upgraded scanners/analyst stand a chance, & the games math still favors an upgraded stealth fit, over an upgraded scanner fit. |
