First off, focus on game mechanics and getting things working well before going after frivolous graphics enhancements.
Ok, having stated that, there was a thought I had the other night when looking up at the moon. If conditions are suitable, if there are moons visible in the sky, I am of the opinion that POSes should potentially be visible from the ground as well.
If there is a POS at a visible moon, I feel that you should be able to see the forcefield of the POS from the ground. In addition to this, spaceships of a suitable size should also be visible. I think it would add to the ambiance (for lack of a better term) if we could see friendly or enemy fleets showing up on grid as well as the mini-moons sitting right next to the actual moons.
Just an opinion that I wanted to share with CCP. |

This has nothing to do with graphics, but CCP is making a mistake trying to balance things BEFORE they expand the areas we fight in.
Something that's balanced in the confined spaces we're fighting in now could end up being underpowered in a large area. |

Forcefields aren't that big. A large POS forcefield is only 30km in width. With the nearest moons being 100s of thousands of KMs away from the planets. You're not going to see a POS or it's forcefield from several hundred thousand KMs away through atmosphere. However, if they open up the moons later for Dust then a different story. Though by that time the current POS mechanics should be out the window...or most everyone would hope. |

Agreed, railguns should without a doubt have one of the longest ranges |

Just an opinion that I wanted to share with CCP. From what has been previously stated by CCP, once full CREST integration has happened between EVE and DUST, and after CCP has invested some more dev time towards it, we should be able to see ships above districts. I can't say 'in orbit' above us because EVE's celestial physics engine is virtually nonexistent.
This sucks, because if CCP could port celestial data into DUST we could look up at the real New Eden sky during night ops. Mercs could see constellations change as they fought on on different planets orbiting different stars in a constellation. An experienced merc could look up at the night sky in a region he was familiar with and KNOW where he was in the constellation.
As for moons and POSes, i'm thinking(i.e. totally guessing) that the same deficiencies of the physics engine might make it difficult to put moons and planets where they should be. This doesn't mean that CCP can't come up with some ugly, hacky, kludgey workaround, tho. If you want to see a POS bubble around a moon, you're gonna have to wait until we mercs can build ground or orbit-based telescopes. Now that would be mind-blowingly cool. |
