I was searching Google to try and find a fan site kit for Dust 514 and saw an EVE Online forum post requesting one but that was all. The moderator who responded in that thread said there was one on the way but the thread was locked after that and I could find nothing else about a fansite kit. That thread was created back in July.
So....does anyone know if one has been released yet? If so, where can it be downloaded? If not, is there any word on when one will become available?
I own several websites but no fnsites yet. I've been wanting to build a fansite for quite some time but no kits available for games I'm really interested in. I was really excited to see that a kit was being created for Dust 514 and hope to get my hands on it soon. |

My guess would be it's low on the list of things to do. That and the whole NDA thing that's currently still in place. So SoonTM? |

Maybe so, I've just seen a few comments now, on forums and Facebook, stating they are putting one together and that will be available "soon". Of course we all know what the word 'soon' means in the gaming world. I suppose it could be a matter of the NDA...although I never really get it when there's a NDA in place for a beta that anyone and everyone can join if they choose to do so. There's no real reason why a fan site would need to break the NDA, although it may be a cause for their concern.
They will probably let everyone know when it does become available. I was really just asking to see if maybe they had released one or given a date for release of a kit and I missed the announcement.
Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated.

There are some, see dust514.org or dust514base.com though those are news sites, I run a third party site for stat tracking, though for NDA reasons it's not really public yet. Even eve didn't get a fan kit until well after launch. but CCP is pretty forgiving as long as your not breaking NDA or trying to make money. |

Ya, those look pretty good. Not really what I was asking for though. I'm not looking for fan sites...I'm looking for the kit to build a site. I've seen fan sites for other games get shut down by the game owners and want to avoid something like that by using only materials I have permission to use. I know not everyone worries about such things but I've known too many people who ended up in court for using licensed products without the owner's permission...I don't want to go down that road.
As I stated in my OP, I've never built a fan site for a video game before so not really sure how strict most publishers are with the licensed stuff. Maybe they don't really come down hard on people for building a site around the licensed product....maybe they do, I'm not taking chances though.
I do remember a couple years ago someone built a pretty popular fan site for an MMORPG I was playing at the time (I won't mention the name). The site was incredible, with lots of information and interactive stuff...it was much better than the official website for the game. I wondered how the webmaster had managed to get permission for all of the images, tools and other licensed products on the site. Well, a few months afterward the site was down with a 404 error. When it came back up a couple of months later, it was owned by the game publisher...they had sued the original creator for using the licensed materials Not only did they gain the site (which was very popular among fans) in the settlement but also nearly bankrupted the guy who built it.
Thanks for the input, it's very much appreciated. I've seen a few places where they've said they are working on a kit that will be available. I was really just wondering if anyone knew whether they had finished and released it yet. I couldn't find anything about it having been made available yet or a date when it would be.
If they are going to be good enough to create a kit for fans to use on their websites then I suppose the least I can do is be patient and respectful enough to wait on them to offer it. I'm hoping that once this game releases, it's going to be popular for many years to come. There should be plenty of time ahead to build a site and plenty of future fans to visit it when it does get built.
Who knows...when the final game releases, I might not even be a fan myself
