I found the comment with the title of this thread, so I just thought....yeah.
Nah. I'm Henry Haphorn from Eve Online. I'm mainly a mining player with one alt being a hauler and market tycoon while I have an additional alt for ganking mining bots.
In addition to what Mars El'Theran said I like to point out a few things that wasn't brought up in this thread.
In case some of you have not heard, Hulkageddon is a yearly event that lasts from a couple of weeks to a whole month depending on the participation of the players and the sponsors. It is an event centered around the utter destruction of ALL mining vessels throughout all of the high-security star systems. It is not all that clear about the original motivation of this event which is always hosted by none other than Helicity Boson, but many will argue that its intents may include but not limited to:
1. Trying to keep the mineral prices high so that mining can be a profitable profession once again. A few of the players who admitted they were bot users said that one of the reasons they bot was because the mining profession was not profitable at all and that they have to mine a lot of ore to compensate for the lower value of the principle mineral that is tritanium (mined from an ore called veldspar) so that they can sell in bulk in the market. Little did they realize was that the market is dependent on supply and demand and if the market is constantly flooded with these minerals and demand drops, the price will drop as well and thus the bot users have to mine more in the same amount of time to compensate. It's a self-inducing punishing that is cyclical in nature and ultimately the bot users will ruin the economy right before they ruin themselves. But by destroying these miners, Hulkageddon participants will ensure that the mineral prices stay up so that there is less incentive to bot.
2. Controlling the market. As of early this year, Hulkageddon has received an official endorsement from Goonswarm Federation via a rewards program that pays anyone or any group 100million ISK for every 10 exhumer ships destroyed. On top of that, the program is now officially permanent and thus ensures continued encouragement to destroy these ships even after Hulkageddon V: Unholy Union is finished. On top of that, the Goons also established a monopoly on technetium moons in null-sec space. Technetium is a critical moon mineral needed for the production of tech 2 components that are needed for the final assembly and availability of Exhumer class mining ships. With such ships being constantly destroyed, and with a good influence on the market that ensures miners keep buying these ships from the Goons, the Goons have become the Eve Online equivalent of John. D. Rockefeller.
3. Crush them bots. I'm not going to joke with you. Eve Online players, particularly the ones that follow the rules set by CCP, HATE BOT USERS!!!! We hate them with a passion. Because of this, many of use have gone so far as to infiltrate suspect corps, bot forums, etc. in an effort to track down the violators of the EULA/TOS (end user license agreement or terms of service) and destroy their ships without warning, provocation, nor regret. We are a bit disorganized at times, but when a bot is discovered, rest assured that bot user will see no rest nor peace until he renounces his botting ways.
In my case, I have done my fair share of ganking miners. Sometimes I gank miners just for the hell of it even though I am a miner as well. But often times I do some hunts. I use my alts to scout around different regions looking for players who might be bot users based on observation of patterns, gathering of intel, and chatting with other miners who could give me a few clues just through seemingly innocent conversations. Once I found my suspects I would go ahead and gather my tools to destroy them without warning. My favorite tactic is by offering the suspect my assistance via a hauling alt. My hauling alt, unbeknownst to the suspect, is a warp-in for my other alt which is flying a Catalyst or Oracle depending on the strength of the target (ship scanners FTW). Then... boom, loot, scoot.
As for Market bots, oh those are just ******* annoying. This is why a large number of Eve players would love to see the ability to shoot someone's avatar in the face inside the stations one day. Even better if one day Dust mercs could break down the market bot's door in Jita and shoot holes into them while they sleep. |
