This would have Higher CPU/PG, slightly less sheilds and armor, but is faster than the DS's we have now. Players won't be able to use turrets on the side, but a co-pilot can use one that's attached to the underbelly. If the dropship lands, then that turret undeploys like a landing gear would after take off on a real life jet, making it unavailable for use. The design of the DS is from the trailer from 2009 (really, a lot of things need to come from that trailer into this.). The seating would be the pilot, co-pilot, and two passangers on each side.
EDIT: The guys in the back can fire their guns, as long asit's not AV (like a swarm launcher). |

So in other words, not a dropship at all? Some type of scout plane? Except, y'know, not a plane, because "plane" implies fixed wing flight. |

It would still be a Dropship, because the main purpose is to transport people, not be a gunship. The Dropship is basically a transport heli, and this would be a smaller one, cheaper one. |

There would actually be less total pg in an overall weajer chassis and the underbelly turret removes any kind if scout value |

In Dust, a dropship is simply a hovering aircraft kind of vehicle like a Helicopter.
People put so much limitation into a name from lore outside of EVE that doesn't need to be there.
I don't see why a dropship chassis can't have a gunship variant. That's how the first Helicopters were.. only later did they evolve into a Cargo/Passenger version and a Combat tailored version.
There could be early engineers in the US that argued that Helicopters would make bad combat ships because they had too many seats in there.. they simply had limited imagination on how to use something existing to do something new.
Can we not agree that "dropships" in EVE are simply hover-helicopters?
The C-130 can have massive guns in it that "should" normally be located on "combat aircraft" (the AC-130).. but it's used to great effect under certain circumstances. Clearly airframes can be used for more than one purpose. Please get over it.
Perhaps Dropship is a limiting term, but it's not a big deal and not a reason to limit the kind of craft we can have in a game.
That said, I support an Assault Dropship variant and feel it's not only logical but a natural fit to Dust. |

So... what I'm picturing in my head is a fast, cheap, semi-fragile dropship. The 'cheap' part would be popular, since regular dropships are bloody expensive. |

An underbelly gun would actually make it EASIER to set up a 2-man killing team.
To make a Dropship into a viable combat element with only 2 players, BOTH need to be very good, and you're limited to a very predictable range of motion. If you had an underbelly gun, you could be actively moving in any direction with consistent fire raining down onto ground targets. Even with 3 players, a Dropship requires a measure of teamwork and coordination to be an effective firing platform.
Having a gunner with an underbelly position would be great for a dedicated BOMBER aircraft, but would be terrible for a scout. |

Instead of making dropship variations, why doesn't everyone just wait for new vehicles? |

If we could just port the choppers from Desert Combat over to Dust, I'd be a happy pilot. Littlebirds were fun, as were the Apache's.
