So I've been playing in the beta since June, and of course it's had its ups and down but the particular troubling part for me anyway, is that I can't seem to find a class that suits me for Dust 514.
I started off playing as the ordinary foot soldier, upgrading my stuff whenever possible, adjusting my things as needed to make it more efficient, etc. After about 2 months of playing through it, the foot soldier didn't really seem "me". So I started a new character being a sniper and found that while it does do alot of damage, it's pretty difficult to hit people. You literally have to be right on target without compromise. Not to mention if you're spotted, you don't stand a chance of trying to defend yourself because you're already so weak with low HP and shield.
Tanks/Airship are really my type of thing either, while they're powerful, I find that being in a tank isn't just me at all.
So we have an open beta in early 2013, and the game will probably release soon after that and haven't really found the "me" class that I can say to myself, "This is me, this is what I'll be doing."
I really like this game too. |

By your post, I assume you want to directly fight, instead of being a logi or driving support vehicles.
Have you tried heavies? How about shotgun scouts?
Give me an idea of what you've liked about the things you've tried so far. |

Agreed. I specced heavily into Assault class, but now find that I am outclassed by the more savvy mercs who know where to spend those 'RARE' skill points. Granted, I squandered about 1.5 million trying out various things (won't make that mistake again!).
Tried to advance my other characters too late into the build and could not get a feeling of comfort, due to dying instantly at the hands of players more skilled up than myself.
I understand that CCP wants to see the results of some long term progression but after the 3x ISK event (which I didn't really get a chance to play in) it has become almost impossible to maintain a status quo with my main character let alone my lesser ones.
Nevermind.... it's all part of being a tester.

Some good things ARE out of the box
Right now I'm a logi with a scrambler pistol (ofc, there's a massive pile of SP to make the scrambler pistol extremely effective) I usually beat assaults at their own game with it. |

@Stealth Reborn
Honestly I've had that same issue and know where you're coming from. I specialized in snipers at first, then got good at AR so invested SP into that, but went back to sniper after a while of being outgunned, and got pretty good. Then I found step one of my baby. Ze Dropship.
Was hard to start out with, but I can successfully operate a DS most of the time now and I enjoy it but it isn't where my heart's at. My favorite plane growing up was the A-10 Warthog (look it up, it is a BAMF of a plane) so I think I'll wait till fighters come in and use them as ground attack vehicles.
My suggestion is to wait for more weapons/vehicles/dropsuits/anything. Hell, maybe you'll be a businessperson (gender correct : I ....you never know) |

@Stealth Reborn
Have you tried basing your class around REs (remote explosives) *in skirmish that is* for me its the perfect for i like to support my team but just reviving or healing people doesn't feel....... adequate. So it tried REs and Man the moment some poor b*stard was hacking a mined position from across the map and i hit the button and just saw +50 it was so rewarding because lets you defend when you can snipe, tank , or do anything you want. |

Yep, waiting for more is always an option. I've always loved flying aircraft in games, and have always been good at it. Except I don't like to rely on blueberries like dropship pilots are forced to- so I'm waiting for fighters to come out. |
