It's been confirmed that there will be 64v64 next build. They are hoping to get up to 256 players by launch. |

I would love to see 256 players in Dust and the thought of high player counts is what caught my eye about Dust but I don't think 256 players will ever happen on Dust. The market death system will squished any ability to have high player counts completely. Folks start screaming about their gear with just 24 players and coming from MAG on domination at the relief valves your gonna be dropped and dropped a lot. Proto gear wont save you from getting shot by 20 people in a funnel to take a objective. |

MAG was, and continues to be, an awesome game in terms of sheer match sizes. That's the only FPS where I've truly felt I've been taking part in a massive battle, with elements outside my control.
So, the more Dust 514 goes in that particular direction, the better. Just one thing: Please avoid the lag problems that MAG encountered if at all possible. |

Since both the last comments seem like they never played MAG , yes that's true with the seperation . Till objectives were met slowly increasing the players you in counter . Ending with what I refered to as a relieve value control panel under constant orbital bombardment to attack or defend. |

From what I remember, on the biggest mode you'd have numerous objectives, with the teams divided into 4 over these objectives. You could always go off and help another "team" fight for their objective, or you could group the entire one side up as a giant zerg and just stomp everything. Is always amusing.
It added an immersive effect to the game, war was all around you, you could hear the shots and explosions going off everywhere, it was cool. |

There was mention during the SSS event in the devs channel about 24 people, I'm not sure if they were saying increasing to 24 vs 24 and not 32v for lag reasons , or if they were talking about reducing the teams to 24 people total 12 v 12 with 3 squads.. I sure as hell hope it isn't 12 v 12, and I'm not even sure if the devs were talking with them about it or just some dusters wishful thinking convo |

So it's not confirmed? Figures. Some of the posters here mentioned that the number was somehow confirmed but I see no confirmation. As for the devs channel, I wouldn't exactly count that as reliable source since those kind of channels tend to carry the same legal disclaimer as IRC chat which is "not everything here is written in stone" unless a dev makes a direct claim that what they say is definitely going to happen. |

The only piece of official informations are :
=> 24 vs 24 being the largest battle at release. (Fanfest, end 11 interviews) => 128 player tests were already done internally (Fanfest Q&A post Dust keynote, question i asked.) |

It's 24 vs 24. Not 256 players, although they mentioned that there are numerous battles happening in one planet that can be affected if for example the enemies has captured the Anti aircraft (that thing that shoots out a big ass beam from the ground on the trailer) |
