So over the last few days more and more people have been asking about Nullsec and how Dustbunnies will supply themselves in regions of space notorious for being understocked and controlled by Alliances. During these talks with a few friends I had an idea that could be cool, give feedback! :D
Players: Between 1 and 10. Gametype: PvE Core-Gameplay: Attack and defend.
The core game would revolve around the players attacking a group of rogue dones that inhabit the planet. Since the recent change on EVE, drones only drop scrap now so this fits. One player will pilot an MTAT (Industrial 'Mech suit) and one will control a vehicle that is part Clone Bank, part Refinery. This vehicle will act as both a spawn point and the key part of the "Defend" gameplay. For EVE Players, think of the Rorqual. (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rorqual for those who don't play EVE)
The players will ride the Rorqual-esqe vehicle to a combat point and deploy it somewhere, it will not act as a stationary refinery and spawn location. The players will then attack the Rogues drones and destroy as many as they can in a limited number of spawns. Each destroyed drone can be salvaged by the MTAT (Think Salvaging laser from EVE for simplicity). Once his cargo bay is full he returns to the spawn vehicle and deposits the salvaged materials into it.
The MTAT has no weapons (or perhaps a small weapon of some type?) so must be defended and protected from the drones while the 'Mercs go about their gritty business and once the spawn vehicle is full it must successfully extract to say a waiting MCC or a factory type building.
I feet this game mode will give 'Mercs some footing in industry without boring them TOO senseless and keeps DUST away from the rather tedious EVE industry which just wouldn't work here. If we think about how NullSec is going to work, 'Mercs are going to need some way of supporting and sustaining themselves, this could work well for smaller alliances or corps who don't have the backing of some of the massive alliances.
What you guys think? Very simple raw concept at the moment, but ask away if you'd like it expanded on :D |

Honestly, i'm not pretty sure this type of game mode can ever be valid. The way i see it, it may end up being boring. But i like what you were trying to do. Giving dusters a feel of how it's like to go mining somewhere with NPC pirates coming in.
But, regarding mining and industry, we have absolutely no clue about when, or even how it will be implemented Dust side. Beside, if Dusters were to harvest planets at some point, why would they do it any differently than capsuleers through PI installations ? I really dont see any active ressource gathering of this type in dust in the future.
Now the gameplay mechanics you mention, with defending a specific target from waves of rogue drones is a good one and, if i remember correctly, as been kinda hinted by CCPers regarding PVE. But, i'd see more something like needing to make your way through rogue drones to an APC with trapped scientist inside, loading them into your APC and then escort them back to a safe place. Exactly like may PVE missions in EVE.
So, credit for the thoughts, but i dont see that specific idea being a good match atm. |
