Hi guys at CCP!
This is my first time posting feedback about a beta, so I apologize if I don't do it right.
In my humble opinion I think Dust 514 has some serious potential, but there is also a ton of work left to do. First off, the Unreal Engine 3 is capable of so much more than is on display in the beta. Ever y map in the game looks like a giant grey blob, with darker grey blobs acting at buildings, hills, etc... Add all the players running around in there all grey dropsuits and it's just too much. Hell even the sky is grey. Expand your color pallet guys. Throw some rust on those pylons, and some weathering, blaster marks, scorching, etc... on those textures. These maps are experiencing heavy battle, and the objects and buildings on them should reflect that. Change the color of the sky to something a little more dynamic. In a word, the world of Dust 514 is bland.
Secondly, the movement speed and turn speed needs to be increased dramatically across the board. I constantly feel like I'm trudging through mud, even while sprinting. When turning to address someone shooting me in the back, which happens often because spawn camping is way to easy (something I will address in another post), if I can't get around and at least get a few shots off before being killed it's a problem. Killzone 2 multiplayer suffered from this exact problem and was the reason many stopped playing. These battles should feel frantic, and filled with kinetic energy, while still giving players the ability to form complex strategy on the fly.
A difficult balance to achieve I admit.
Please increase the range of almost every weapon in the game. Nothing is more frustrating then giving away your position with a couple of ranging shots. Bullet deviation across distance needs to be increased across the board as well. Switching weapons is way to slow, and reloading time is absolutely ridiculous.
Oh, one more thing. The snap to look down the sights of your weapon are pretty terrible. The sites take up the whole screen and players no longer can see what is going on to his left or right. Check out battlefield 3 to see how looking down the sights is done. No option to just use iron sights, why not?
I love the marketplace, and how deep the customization and skills go. I would suggest adding some more variation on weapons and dropsuits though. I bought three different rifles and all three looked exactly the same.
Thanks for reading, and please disregard if these issues are already being worked on. Like I said at the beginning of this post, there is a ton of potential here. It also feels like it's being developed by a team that hasn't played a lot of multiplayer shooters. That is the market we are going for, right? With that in mind, there are a few basics you need to nail to appeal to that audience, which Dust 514 just isn't doing atm. |
