As a recent architecture graduate I have been wondering/wishing if there will be distinct architectural styles and forms associated with each faction. So far it seems almost all structures have a purely functional yet ambigous form. I believe the differing ideologies of the four factions create an opportunity to express the different beliefs and cultural values. You can see how these forms could be drastically different by looking at the different architecture on earth...
-American industrial city as a Caldari capitalist form
-Massive preplanned cities (such as Chandigarh in India or Brazilia in Brazil) as utopian ideals of the Gallente
-The basic form of feudal medieval towns as an extension of the Amar government
-And modest informal collections of buildings to reflect the Minmatar tribal past
I got my info on each faction from http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Portal:NPC_Factions
Any thoughts? |

Amarr stuff is pretty opulent and ornate. Take a look at your scrambler pistol sometime. If even their pistols are elegant and gold-filigreed, what're the odds their buildings will be "medieval"? This is the hyper-religious empire that is the most powerful of the four and sees itself as destined to rule New Eden, after all.
All of the stuff they've shown is very generic. It doesn't appear to be something aesthetically similar to any of the sides. I guess it'd be good if they did one day have structures with clear design aesthetics from one of the empires to them, but when it comes to industrial complexes, would that be a consideration for any of the sides? I mean, when it comes to industry, all of our Earth cultures have pretty much the same design philosophies in terms of making an efficient, relatively safe structure that achieves whatever task it's built for as pragmatically as possible. |

Im not necessarily thinking about the design of individual buildings, rather the overall form and structure of the theoretical city. When I mentioned the Amarr as having a medieval feudal form I didn't literally mean a stone castle and thatch roofs, I meant an urban form where a large central structure dominates the city, both literally(houses amar government and religion) and symbolically(through its immense scale). |

Most the architecture we've seen so far seems to be Caladari. There is one structure in the Ambush maps that was originally called Biomass which is distinctly Gallente. You can tell because the shapes and coloring look a lot like the Gallente Dropships.
If you haven't been around EVE much the easiest way to tell is the color palette:
Amarr: gold Caldari: grey Gallente: blue-green Minmatar: rusty brown |
