Such as Firefly (wow I'm late on this bus.) Cowboy bebop and any odd movie I can see involving space travel or Scifiy setting, I came to a point... I freaking love this stuff! Iv been playing some FTL along the sides and I'm hoping my laptop can run EVE pretty well. (A HP pavilion G not a vary good video card... )) But I really have started to enjoy just Scify stuff.
When has there been a game that kick started you're love of something, such as Midevil magic or post-apocalyptic? |

Firefly, Cowboy Bebop, good choices,
If you fancy a deeper foray into the genre; Tv Series I recommend are; Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Babylon 5. Anime; Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Darker than Black, Films; Serenity (if you haven't already), Aliens etc (of course), Event Horison, Sunshine, even District 9,... and many more... lol I also suggest the Eve Books and Ian M Bank's Culture books,.. good reads.
New Eden is a Great setting with lots of potentual, it's very inspiring for me too.
We had a conversation in our corp forum about sci-fi and New Eden, how what you choose to be can be split along the lines of subsets of Science Fiction...
The Minmatar could be seen as the 'Firefly' themed race, that and Mad Max etc. very scrappy and down to earth.
The Gallente are more like Star Trek, with a dark side, very liberal and about individual freedom
Caldari seem very 'James Camron' to me,.. the organisations in Aliens and Avatar could easily be Caldari megacorps....
I've had trouble with the parallels for the Amarr though, the Imperium from 40k?
Am I way out here? not sure if this interests anyone, just though i'd put it out there...

Indeed, Star Wars got me started. Stargate SG-1 is what kept me in it, and games such as Killzone, and DUST 514 never get old.
Stargate has been removed from Netflix though, so without DUST 514 I probably wouldn't still be into Si-Fi.
Oh, and also Halo. Yes, I know this is Playstation, but really, John-117 is awesome.

Firefly FTW!
But if you're getting into sci-fi; try out '2001: A Space Odyssey'
Though it may be marmite for some people. |

Try the books, far easier to get into,...
think the others are 2010 2061 3001
they definatly lack the 'Kubrick confusion' element of the films.

I've been a hardcore sci-fi/science geek for as long as I've been reading. I mastered reading quite early, and one of the very first things I remember reading was a collection of mission briefs about the Apollo missions. Personally, I prefer books to games, movies, and other sci-fi media. This includes comics. Easily my three favourite series are Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, James S. A. Corey's The Expanse, and Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy. As for games, you should also look into Starfarer and the upcoming amazingness that is (will be) Star Citizen. As for games that inspired my lifelong love of a subject, the most obvious that comes to mind is Bushido Blade for the Playstation. I developed a healthy love for Edo-era Japan from playing that game.
P.S. - Also, Tribes Ascend > Halo. |
