Ok Im worried again. I think we just got a whole bunch of new players and they are all posting about problems we banged on about last build. I have been playing for 2 builds now and I have a theory on the evolution of the dust player pool:
- New players join and find the gun play terrible, steep learning curve, etc...
- New players post topic in feedback forum and get ripped into by vets
- New players stop posting VALID feedback (because there is no such thing as an incorrect opinion and feedback IS one's opinion)
- Some new players leave and some tough it out and become vets
- The ones that tough it out and stay end up adapting to a lot of the games issues and post about them considerably less than new players would.
- New players join and find the gun play terrible, steep learning curve, etc... REPEAT from step 1
I guess what I'm trying to say is are we really shaping the game through our feedback or is the game shaping us (the Dust player pool)? |

I guess what I'm trying to say is are we really shaping the game through our feedback or is the game shaping us (the Dust player pool)? To be fair, 75% of beta communities with similar set ups like this one don't use the forums for more reasons then just trolling. It's sorta like voting for president. Yea, your vote counts, but under the pile of 300 million other voters, your voice is just an echo.
How many people do you need to say the same thing? CCP needs more physical evidence sometimes, and that's where the majority of beta testers come in. Weather or not they actually stick around to enjoy the game or not is irrelevant - it's a beta. If they want to see an incredibly ambitious project grow and expand like most of us do, they'll stick around through the trolling and vets and will always find a place in communities like these.
Honestly, I prefer things the way they are, it keeps kids out. Once this game goes live and 13 y/o middle school rejects start dominating this game I'ma be a sad panda. So enjoy the ability to converse logically with fellow gamers of reasonable age while you can. They may be trollish, but it's not your momma jokes. |

yeah I like the way things are as well I just wish there was more players! Not sure what region you are but here in AUS/NZ it can be hard to find a game sometimes.
In that sense I would prefer your momma jokes than the deafening silence that is the AUS server at times... |

As long as the DUST 514 learning curve isn't quite as steep as teh EVE curve, I think we are fine :)

i think they should add landmines and 250Kv electric fences to our learning curve just to give us a challenge. that one looks easy ^.^ |

Maybe instead of trying to defend a bad set of controls and gameplay , since it is a beta and can be changed. Realize that maybe there is a problem if everyone who starts this beta has the same problem like a bug in the system at the same point.
Where is Robert Irvine and Gordon Rammsie when you need them. My restaurant is failing but its not my staff, the food, or the decor its just new customers don't get my cooking or don't understand what good food is. Sound like any beta we know. |

I like the forums how they are. I wouldn't want kids running the forums let alone effect the outcome of DUST development. |

Everyone in here knows this is a Beta, we just need everyone to quit with the "Dude its a Beta" phrase. posting things about graphics or crappy hit detection is valid, we should be posting about it so it will get fixed eventually, not having someone post about how "this thing here" isnt working quite right then to have some fool immediately post below "dude its a Beta". |

I'm pretty sure every time the "Dude it's a beta." gets brought up it's because someones trying to pretend they're playing a finished product. Population and the over-all happiness of us beta players isn't the importance of this closed BETA. When it goes open that'll be what they'll be trying to accomplish. But since we're still in closed it means there's issues greater then simple gameplay still. |
