I'm at a lost of module to equip my heavy dropsuits with. I know it's probably personal preference and all but what do the pros use? My weapon of choice is mostly a heavy machine gun, although I do splash out for a forge occasionally. |

I use armor plates. to regen the 88 Hp you have off the back with a auto plates with an auto repper takes anywhere between 17 and 44 seconds after taking the damage just to be on par with armor plates. It's worth noting that these will slow you down but then again, you're a heavy. the one exception to this would be if you make a heavy class exclusively for turrets.
I can't think of any biotics that could benefit a heavy in combat until you have multiple Low slots.

Double armor reppers as a shield heavy. The only way too be sure.
If using advanced smg and nades then 1 armor repper and a CPU upgrade. |

Always at least one armor repper, if not two (if you're CPU can handle it).
Without one, the amount of armor you have is finite, once you lose it, too bad. With the repper you can, stay in the fight longer.
HMG with Type-II because you'll be getting shot at more often because you'll be in closer proximity with the opposing guys, in which case definitely an armor repper. |

but also just think of this - if you survive half a minute after taking damage your overall ability to tank damage is higher than just armor plates.
plating right now is rather worthless, in my experience. If they were to add some sort of hardening effect to the armor, like boosting resistances to headshots or something along those lines it would be a different story. but as of now being able to have a build that will have greater ability to take damage over a period of time without loss of mobility is much better than being able to withstand about 5 more AR rounds in the initial encounter only.
so, op. to answer your question i would say that armor reps are more important than anything else, unless you have a logibro with a rep tool covering you. then it's a much different story, but the priority is being able to survive multiple fights - and since the heavy can't outmaneuver any other suits its rather guaranteed you will take damage. this makes being able to repair that damage very important.
