This game is a very unforgiving to new players. All they have to use at startup is militia gear and a prayer. When new players have to zone in and face players that have had months to get their SP/Gear up, it will drive them off.
I would guesstimate we have about 500 beta players that have been in and stayed with this game since Mordu's dropped. These 500 have alot of knowledge about how the game works, as opposed to the new players just coming in. I remember looking at the dropsuits when I first joined going How the F do I fit this thing. While not as big a learning cliff as EVE was, it is def. close when you are talking about the player base you are trying to attract (FPS players). Most games don't require you to "think" to much about how to do gear, this game is totally different.
We need a LARGE influx of new players so they can face each other (not veterans). If they have to go up against the veterans (even if we all wore militia gear) they will get discouraged and not want to play. We all want this game to succeed and for that to happen we need people to STAY with the game and not be driven off by everyday stomps or lack of knowledge. If new players ever have questions through mail I try to answer them, would encourage others to do the same. We need newer players to stick with the game and not leave with a bad taste.
Alot of these ideas came from a corpmate (Blondie) not my own. I am just putting into text what some of us have been thinking. Hopefully with this stress test, CCP will open the gates a little and let some players in for the rest of beta, not just the weekend. |

New players do not want to play this game. My friend was a prime example last night. He said the game was stricken with Lag and bugs, and thought the overall concept of the skill system was broken. Furthermore, He thought the game was boring and that it had no general direction other then killing people. |

totally agree, and actually posted something similar awhile back, my brother in law, who still plays....was so frustrated when he first joined that he would not play unless i taught him how to fit his suits properly...

Your logic reminds me of a scene i think from the Simpsons where homer gets stuck in the water slide and the reaction to it by the water park attendant is to just send in more kids resulting in more people stuck instead.
MY fear for splitting players by level to such a degree will result in half as many games being able to start for higher levels. I think the beta fan base are being very optimistic when they think the player base will be as huge as COD. It will probable keep the amount of players as MAG did and sometimes we would wait 10 mins to 15 mins between games or more. The way around this would be to keep the player count low but then you run into FPS players comparing this game to COD and going there instead as well as making the problem worst for new players as MAG did with the death match mode made for new players.
I think the problem is that Dust is to much designed off a RPG game and slowly every FPS player starts to reject it. Its not that there dumber , its just it doesn't feel right or natural. |

It'll be interesting to see how many people actually want in open beta. I'd like to know how many CCP thinks will play this game when it releases. Of course it won't do COD numbers, on PS3 BO2 there are 500-700k online at a time. Is CCP hoping for 100k, 50k?

COD, the old BF series and the Halos all have killing people as a general direction. Whats the difference. |

Unfortunately the core mechanics of this game hasnt been fixed yet. Promises were made and broken and this game is not even a shadow of what it can be. Without noob zones they will just get destroyed buy the pros.

Did your friend contribute to Dust 514's development by submitting reports to CCP in the technical issues/bugs forums or post ideas or suggestions in the Feedback forums? If yes, good. At least he did something productive to help improve the game. If no, why bring him up in this conversation? |

We definitely need a lot more players to test things properly Things like Matchmaking need to be worked on and made sure that it actually works as intended.

I actually sort of understood the game having basic knowledge from similar loadout style to Blacklight Retribution. Hell that games probably has a more complicated gun mechanic. But anyway being a veteran of tactical shooters (Commando or whatever it was called, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield 1942, BF3 etc.) I could understand the game very quickly. |

The OP is right, we need more beta TESTERS.
We need to get rid of everyone who is too lazy to file a bug report. We need to get rid of the dummies who make thread after thread of the same old complaints. We need to get rid of the players who throw hissy fits over every little change. We need to get rid of the people who just PLAY the game and then **** and moan because something's broken, or something glitched.
We're supposed to be beta TESTERS, we're supposed to find glitched spots in the mesh in the moutains to fall through, we're supposed to find the weapons and modules imbalanced, we're supposed to find vehicle A overpowered, we're supposed to find the broken places on the maps where you can kill with complete immunity, we're supposed to TEST the game and every aspect of it. We're also supposed to be filing bug reports with as much detail as we can give every time an issue pops up so they can fix them BEFORE release.
Beta testing is both a PRIVILEDGE, and also a RESPONSIBILITY. If the glitches, bugs, and imbalanced weapons make you mad enough to quit, you should - beta testing isn't for the impatient masses.
Let's get more Beta TESTERS and get rid of the whining PLAYERS who would rather ***** than do their job as a beta TESTER. |

This is right on. I have been bringing new people into the corp and they (we) just get demolished. On top of that having to learn about all the skills and builds for the soldiers and vehicles is just too much. As hard as I try, they are not having fun and abandoning Dust for other games. |

Too many high profile games are out now, like CoD, Halo 4, Planetside 2 and Battlefield's new DLC is where we've lost the bulk of our mercs to. You wont see alot of new players in dust anytime soon.
Unless CCP adds some sort of new incentive to play, I think most would like new maps and gadgets to test. CCP could add some new ice world maps maybe, it being nearly christmass and all.
Any new players in dust now are probably mostly coming over from Eve. Dust 514 could be an extra content for some other game, like how the Gears of War 3 beta was for Bulletstorm or Halo Reach beta with Halo ODST, try and pull new players from a wider audience. |

I wish some of these morons would stop referring to dust as a 'game'! It is not a 'game' until it is released, right now is is the 'closed beta" for the upcoming 'game' due out Q2/Q3 next year. Also, to those who are complaining 'no new players will want to play due to everyone else playing for longer and having better gear'........isn't that how ALL online games work? there's always people been playing longer (BF3, COD, BLOPS 1+2, UC3, MP3 etc etc etc), also on release everyone will have everything reset, so how the hell will people have a Head start on the noobs? besides experience in playing the game there will be nothing else. Get over it, there will always be people playing longer. People have been playing EVE since day one, yet there's always new players joining.
Enjoy the BETA, test the BETA, contribute towards its development, and if you don't want to stick around and test........don't complain if there's something in the final release that you don't like, because if you had no PART in the testing and developing...........you have NO SAY! |

Well if they want to PLAY they should wait for release to try the game. If you don't understand the difference between a PLAYER and a TESTER, or the difference between a BETA and a RELEASED game, you probably shouldn't be trying to sell the game to your friends, let them wait till release day. |

My only complaint is that the current beta testers are whiny, self-absorbed and immature. The fact that drastic changes have, and still are being made to this game based solely on the outcry of people complaining about game-play features which (ironically enough) were designed to kill them is just disgusting.
Changes should NOT be made until -all- weapons, vehicles, features and elements are introduced. |
