Just because not all of the mercs have headsets, doesn't mean that they don't have speakers or ears.
It's frustrating to drop into a pickup game where the other team is _obviously_ tightly coordinated but your team seems to be running off in 12 different directions, all with their fingers at varying depths within their nostrils.
It's less than ideal, but even if only one person on the team has a headset, it still could make a huge difference just to be able to call out warnings.
- "Tank approaching objective Charlie."
- "Enemy drop uplink somewhere near Echo, I haven't found it, yet."
- "Sniper camping on Bravo from the East."
- "Two enemy squads pushing from Charlie to Alfa."
Or if one squad is well coordinated, but others are not: "We're moving on Charlie, so Alfa will be undefended."
Naturally, it would be great if everyone had a headset and could share intel from multiple vantage points...but even just one or a few reporting their intel to the rest of the team could make things much more interesting.
(Obviously, if piping it through the regular speakers, I assume it would need a separate volume control to balance with "environmental" sounds, etc.) |

Uh...right. I knew that. Really.
*hides*
(And I thought it was "alpha", too...but for some reason it was spelled differently, here: Wikipedia: NATO phonetic alphabet
That said, I think in other games players might use "Able", "Baker", "Charlie", etc. for objectives. I dunno. Never was in the service, myself...and haven't played much of the other online tactical FPS games.) |
