So am I going to get flamed for this? Probably.
Since the patch (6-7 weeks ago?) I have been missing spamming and being spammed with Precision Strikes..
Why you ask? Because when your running through a controlled point on a skirmish match with your teams PS killing everyone in sight is FUN, it gets the adrenaline going. Same can be said for when a group of guys secure a location on Ambush, would be good to flush them out. And same goes for being holed up fighting off the enemy when a PS comes in and clears everyone out, it stops the game stagnating, it can scare away tanks also.
Now I know everyone is like 'QQ I hate anything that one shots me' Forges, snipers, missile turrets for example. BUT If the game was staying true to 'EVE' then when the game goes live we are going to have 4-5 ships waiting to pound down but really at best they might get 2 in 15minutes?!? This is surely going to be boring from there POV?
What I would like to see is the point cap reduced by 25-50% so we can have more Precision strikes again, its a fun part of the game, and from what I witnessed it keeps the battle 'flowing' rather than getting red lined and being stuck there until the end of the game.
'Well Guinevere thatGÇÖs all well and good but the noobs! think of the poor noobs!'
Firstly, if the 'Noob' team has at least one squad that is doing it's job then it's going to at least give you a break if youGÇÖre stuck in the red line, and opportunity to grab a cap point that could turn the tide of battle.
My suggestion is if we are reducing the cap how about reducing the damage as well? Maybe decrease the splash damage so a direct hit is a kill but the splash is survivable.
IGÇÖm really just chucking ideas out here, but I think we need Precision Strikes back. I want to see the skies bleeding rails!!. |

What you are referring to are the Precision Strikes from the war barge guns. The EVE players will be using Orbital Bombardment which will be it's own mechanic (there's ammo for it in EVE for at least a couple types of gun with differing stat spreads).
Also, word to the wise, Precision Strikes will not kill tanks, so unless that tank is already heavily damaged and on the run a PS shouldn't really alter it's behavior.

Fair enough, I hadn't realised there will be a different mechanic in place purposely for EVE /facepalm. I should probably change my post as the theory still applies.
I mention scaring away tanks not killing em ;) Also if its anything below a decent fit Gunloggi I would say it hasn't got much of a chance against a Precision Strike from what I have seen.

I agree to some extent. I would've prefered changes to how the Orbital Strikes worked instead of severely limiting the number of Strikes per match, which is what they did.
IMO, they had a few options:
- Reduce the number of beams per strike - Increase delay between deploying and actual strike - Increase interval between beams
These would've improved the situation while keeping strikes in play. There are actually quite a few skirmish matches where teams don't get any strikes and in ambush they're much more rare. |

I quite like having Precision Strikes as a very limited resource that you have to work to get access to.
Presumably the mechanics will be changing in future, since there's a good chance we'll have a player on board the War Barge directing it - and therefore also controlling its weapons. |

Ah, must have miss read, I've just had more luck killing tanks with my starter AV fit than my use of PS.
As to the general idea I'm actually very interested in seeing how it would play but with one key amendment (it comes in two parts).
- Give rewards to the whole squad for PS kills and change all awards to assists
- Do not have the WPs gained from the use of one PS contribute to the acquisition of another
Honestly it's really #2 that's the most directly relevant point, the other is more of a "related to the overhaul" thing.
I also think that Garrett Blacknova is on to something regarding the commander role on field. And as to the EVE players there are a couple of things worth bringing up (in my opinion). First is that assuming their ship is fit for it the only limitations on OB I'm aware of are A) being in orbit above the correct district, B) having a "spotter" on the ground to feed them targets. The second EVE element to keep in mind is that ever second they're out there orbiting to shoot at things in dust is a second they are exposed to the ravages of hostile militia fleets or (it being low sec ) board pirates. So I doubt they'll be board, and when the API comes online and EVE players can start getting Dust kill mails rest assured there are players who will buy and fit ships just to get on the mails.
Ok, going to call it there because I've realized that I'm pretty tired and may be rambling.
Cheers, Cross

I just like calling one in , Then turning to that location and seeing it destroy everything in its radius.

I like them how they are now, my squad's gotten 2-4 in a game a couple times. Also, it's more rewarding, and fun to use. |
