Since I have been playing DUST514, which is about 12 or 14 hours, I have made the equivalent of zero friends that I can squad up with. I usually play Ambush to gain some extra SP and ISK and it seems that most of the time I'm running around alone trying to help the team as much I can. After dying close to 100 times, I've come to this conclusion: If you're not with the main pack of the team, you will die very quickly.
At first there was no problem, but after being spawned in countless times away from the bulk having to spend half the time cowering away in cover only to run into the opposing teams main bulk, it gets frustrating after a while.
The reason for this is the spot system lights you up like a Christmas tree every time you shoot, or are even looked at by an enemy.(I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on that part; someone can inform me on the spotting system) So you're alone and happened to come across a squad, that entire squad is going open fire and most likely kill you.
It's not necessarily a complaint but I'm saying that it's going to be very hard for some players of the game if you are unable to go solo. |

I go solo, myself. Maybe its because you're playing ambush. I only play on skirmish. |

I stopped playing Ambush shortly after I was spawned into a black and white screen, repeatedly, due to a missile tank pointed directly at my spawn.
Skirmish is better about this. You can usually be with a group of your own members (assuming they are all going to the same place at around the same time) shortly and you can easily avoid enemies due to the large ranges. I play logi, so I'm always running to my group and keeping them alive, but it's pretty easy to figure out where the enemies are most likely going/are so I can go cap a few undefended objectives by my lonesome. |

You have a couple of options to deal with this problem:
- Make a cheap fitting with a drop uplink. If you spawn in and survive, run to some place that is easy to defend from all angles and place the drop uplink. Wait there and defend the drop uplink until a few buddies show up, then stick with them.
- Play skirmish, since the spawning isn't totally hosed in that mode.

Ah lone wolf play is hard in this game just as it is in many FPS i too have not met another person to play with. I would suggest you and i team up but at the moment no headset. Just try to stay with a pack of players or lurk in the shadows and try to draw players out. And yes all an enemy has to do is look a you to be spotted. |

Only scouts and (certain) vehicles should go solo IMO.
It's always kindof strange in the main pack. Not many people die, but there are tons of people with very low armor. Makes me want to skill into using a limbus so I can turn the pack into the superpack. |

Lone wolfing isn't that difficult once you get the hang of it.

2 person squad with no mics is hard to do, I tried it a few times and we always just end up basically lone wolfing it . Not very easy to type and communicate with eachother when you have people shooting at you :\ |

I specialize as a lone wolf heavy AR. It's not that lone wolfing is impossible, it requires more know how then anything. You need to understand terrain, possible enemy movements, how they can move, how many, type of weapon, ect. I've taken down 4 people with one clip because they didn't see me climbing a ladder right next to them. Lone wolfing means you're doing the work of a squad by yourself, so if you aren't keeping to walls, moving after checking to see things are clear, and other tactical movements, then lone wolfing will be hell in a basket for you.
Also understand lone wolfing doesn't mean rambo. Sometimes just being in an angel enemies don't expect an enemy to be to locate them is more damaging then takin' out an HAV.

If no one is open in my Corp, I just look for a squad there. There's almost always someone looking for more members. |

Timing is everything Do you use a scrambler pistol? From my experience, with the correct skills, you can kill more people per-clip than with most weapons- if you get the jump on people, it's very possible to 2-shot someone, even with a militia scrambler. (headshot damage is amazing) |

I don't exactly lone-wolf, but I prefer being a flanker operating a little way apart from the "core" group that larger teams tend to form into. Even in my tank, I get behind enemy lines, and hit them from unexpected directions rather than rushing in with everyone else.
I break off, alone or with one other, and circle around into flanking positions so I can interfere with the enemy plan.
If I perform well, it pays off massively, because nobody starts to shoot me until too late. If I screw up, it still usually lands a few teammates some easy kills they wouldn't have otherwise been able to get.
Other than that, I sometimes like to run BEHIND the main pack, with a repair tool to patch everyone up. That's a surprisingly effective role to fill - especially with Heavies or teammates who don't use armour repper modules. |

The call of the lone wolf.
I wolf on occasion its quite fun. The pack goes one way I go the other cause that's the way they all spawn in ambush.
Then you don't have to share your kills as much. More tasty kills for me.
If you see a heavy run with him he can't out run you. And you will be realitvely safe with him.
Good luck and hang in there OP. |

I've 500 shield and 500 armor basically, and I get 3 shotted by pistols. But you'll never see one dominating the field like an AR can. lol |

Hey OP, hang in there. The beginning can be rocky but the game does reward sticking with it. You'll see a steady improvement as you level up your skills and improve your loadout.
One thing that's worth keeping in mind about DUST is that for a given amount of skillpoints, gank grows a lot faster than tank. I'd say run cheap suits, get your gank up and fill in the tank gaps later. Your only real tank is situational awareness, using terrain properly and trying to get inside the other guy's head so you know where to be and when to be there. Definitely a skill i'm learning the hard way lol - good thing we're immortal.
Also be aware there are skills and modules that will keep your dot from lighting up too much on the minimap.
And finally, in DUST, any enemy merc who has line of sight to you will put you on the minimap. Visual information from one suit is uploaded to the whole team.
There's always peeps to run with in the various Corp public chat channels. 'Zion TCD Hub' and 'Betamax Diplo' are 2 that I know about, for sure there's others. LFSquad is good too.
