Too expensive, die to infantry too easily.
there is no profit in being a heavy. not only do you lose money when you die once/twice but you cant make money...
ccp put a "bonus isk weekend".... I laugh at your feeble attempt... Die trying has never sounded so true.
on top of that the skill point requirement is almost double!? For what? So you can take pot shots at infantry?!
not speccing forge next build. Simply not worth it |

Try assault forgeguns, the charge time is lower and you get more damage. Good for killing vehilces and infantry. Have a Heavy weapon damage mod and an assault SMG sidearm with atleast sidearm sharpshooter lv4. You should get better results with that. |

Also have your squad support you as you're destroying vehicles so you're not as defenseless. |

I've been able to keep a healthy stock of Type-As, Proto forges, complex damage mods, and proto armor reppers. Not sure how you play your heavy.
I do agree with your point about how heavies die to infantry too easily. |

You missunderstand, i am saying 2 deaaths are and you lose money.
the reason for this is because costs are determined by class, yet the rewards are performance based.
the expense to reward is too big. With scout / assault, the expense is negligible. But with the heavy, the proto forge alone is over half the reward for 1. Its not manageable if you die twice as you need to buy skill books on top of items. I play scout so i can afford my forge gun. Its a broken mechanic because this is what i have to do to keep it. Am I really the only one who does this? Using a proto assault forge with a complex damage mod, grenades, enhanced armor repair, shield repair and type 1 suit. |

To me, I have two or three types of most of my fittings.
The first one is a cheap version. For instance, I play with the mass driver, and my cheap version is one that only costs me the price of the basic mass driver since I use mostly militia bpo items (6k). My second version is a type 2 suit with complex shield modules and an exo-5 (50k total). My third version is a type A suit with shield and damage modules, a freedom driver, and a repair nanohive (100k+).
I'm guessing that you can make similar basic suits, and still run a forge gun fitting that doesn't cost so much. Sure, you might have to hit the target a few more times, but at least when you die, you don't lose profit. |

I know your pain, but I play FG because I like it. On the other side... I also started skilling HMG so I have something else to fall back on should the match suddenly go vehicle/installation free. |

I like this thread. DUST needs some place for forgegunners' gathering. TO DESTROY THEM WITH ORBITAL STRIKE AT ONCE!!!
If seriously... TS, you can't even imagine, how pilots hate your role as forgegunnger if it's begin played properly... There is no need in buffing forge guns, they are OP'ed already. |

My cheap suit is 50000 isk and my top model is 116000 isk. Die four times 200,000/404,000 isk I agree about running milita zero cost just to get the money to run what we want. |

why bother spec into it if we can only use in a corp match?
you are more likely to die because mr militia shoots and moves faster, is more accurate, fires a further distance and if he gets killed its no big deal because his fit is half the price.
this isn't taking into consideration assault skills are far cheaper than heavy skills so they can buff shields and armor sooner |

Seems like rewards (most specifically ISK rewards) for kill/destruction could use a tweak. Pegging the awards more closely to the value of gear/installations/vehicles destroyed would be an improvement (it'd also be nice if they'd actually list that stat in post match, but that's another thread).
Heavies are a bit weak/watered down on the Risk v Reward scale when compared with Assault, this could bear another iteration or two of polish to ensure that a dedicated Heavy may properly fill the battlefield role without relying on another role/Corp donations to get by (of course when I say dedicated Heavy I assume that they're able to at least run two Heavy fits and not be 100% forge gun all the time).
The above being said I used the cheap meta 1 forge to take out a LAV, a HAV, and get three kills today. I was then killed. On balance I gained ISK off of that exchange. CCP has stated that Proto gear is intended to be "sunday best" so it's not actually meant to be profitable to run Proto every match (unless you're just so skilled you simply don't die at all).
So, save the Proto for the Tourny and Corp matches, or bring it whenever you like if you've the ISK to burn, but don't expect to run pure Proto gear in all matches and still make a profit.
0.02 ISK Cross
ps ~ this also means that if any role/dropsuit can on average make a profit while being run pure proto then that needs a tweak to bring it back in line with intended game balance. |

I have seen pilots go upside down from two consecutive hits from my FG and recover more than once, so I can't see that as a valid excuse anymore. |
