I've been useing the swarms more recently and I must say I'm glad I speced into them they aren't useless anymore and recived a spead increase so they can actualy catch dropships (or everyone I was shooting at was going slow) and splash dammage upgrade they are now an effective av against all hostile armor however I have two problems with it:
1: the ejection of the swarms is rather random and if you are standing next to something there is a 75% chance they will curve into the closest wall/hill/pillar of rock/mountain and either explode or 'stick' for lack of a better term
fix: while I do not know if the 'Jacks' used in one of the trailers are actualy swarm launchers (they looked to be nonlock on rockets making me think they may be something else) their flight path was strait forward making right for the target instead of curving in a random direction before 'locking' onto the target and moving towards them and the swarms may be easyer to use this way.
2:the lock on for the swarm launchers sometimes locks onto hostile armor when it is behind something ,mostly hills, or if there is even the smallest sliver of it visable missleading you and making you waist ammo in maps with low visability(spelling?).
other then that I've no problems with it as always anything my fellow dusters have experianced in this or have to add is wanted.
Edit: I am now aware of this and it may be the 'jacks' I was speaking of above:
[REQUEST] Swarm launcher - distinctive variants Update: There is work being done on a new type of launcher system that is very distinct from the swarm launcher and will require more skill to use.

Back on topic though, Yes, swarm tracking has severe issues and missiles will sometimes pull away in random directions for no apparent reason.. Locking onto a partially-exposed target, though? That's totally legitimate, and you need to be more careful to avoid those situations. There's an occasional problem with the missiles "clipping" through cover from these shots though, which needs to be fixed - although in my experience, it's less of a common problem than when missiles swerve randomly off-course.
There are three core problems with missile pathing/tracking which I'll list below:
1. On launch, missiles fire only a short distance forward before they sometimes go crazy - this frequently results in them impacting on scenery - buildings, hills, etc. - instead of heading for the target. If the missiles survive this random uncontrolled flight, they will THEN lock onto the target and track it.
2. When fired at a target partially in cover, or at a target that's on its way into cover, missiles which SHOULD impact on the cover the vehicle is behind can sometimes instead dodge around that cover or clip through it and damage a vehicle which SHOULD be safe from the attack.
3. After launch, Swarm Missiles take time to start tracking, but their initial point of aim is always the location the target HAD BEEN when they were fired, and NOT the location the target has moved to by the time they start tracking it. This results in missiles being almost incapable of hitting Dropships, since they frequently, even when fired from the direction the Dropship is travelling, EVADE the target and aim BEHIND it, ending up on a "chase" path when they should have flown straight into it from the front. It should take skill - or at least some measure of effort - to get a Dropship out of the way of a head-on attack from Swarm Missiles. Simply flying straight AT the missiles shouldn't be a valid method to escape damage, ever. It CERTAINLY shouldn't be a reliable method of avoiding at least 50% of the damage, and of avoiding all the damage more than 50% of the time. |

What Garrett said ^^
1. Yeah the old launch path was better ... you had full control of the launch direction before tracking kicked in and you could launch them out away from or round or under obstacles and after about 10m tracking would kick in and turn them direct to target.
2. Also it's sometimes possible to get a lock on even when a vehicle is completely hidden on the other side of a mountain range ... this is more a terrain issue and I've only really noticed it on the Manus Peak map when a HAV is up on the road under the MCC andI'm down near objective A.
3. This is compounded by the missiles seeming to track the rear of the vehicle or maybe they're tracking the path the vehicle took or something ... whatever it is, they do sometimes seem to go to where the vehicle was and then follow it's route into cover.
Long story short CCP know how they are working now and how they worked before and it's just one of many things that still need tweaking. I'm sure they're listening to these opinions and I seem to remember swarms tracking is in the weekly updates as to be addressed. |

I'm using advanced swarms
and what I suggested here are just some problems with the SL flight path not sure why you are saying I'm making it more of a threat could you explain? |

You can make your swarms something to be feared, even the basic swarms, it all depends on the type of mods and what you have skill wise. Remember that each missile has to have full contact to get the full damage and with all the ways that you can increase the final damage output.
You can make swarms deal up too and this using the Prototype swarms mind you, with 2 complex damage mods so your light weapon damage is 1.21%, weaponry 5 and Swarm Launcher Pro. at 5 that the over all damage, that will be 2070.1 damage and say you was facing a tank with2 15% armor resistors which adds up to 27.5% resistances and about 8357worth of armor and no more than 1500 shield, the first shot/volley would take off the tanks armor to a total of 5717.6 that is not adding in the shield though so keep in mind and I'm to lazy to add that into the match part. Regardless take a little time out of the day to do a little math in game with some gear if you want the best out come for your weapons. |

seen this right here and wanted to point out that even the weakest tier AV weapon is strong if you know how to set your loadout right. |
