popup "server shutdown" warning cancels weapon lock-on and removes player control in the middle of combat. . .
hey CCP -- IN WHAT KITTEN KITTEN DID YOU THINK THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR AN FPS?
every time that popup appears, PLAYERS GET INTERRUPTED and then DIE..
This isn't EVE, where your ship keeps on flying and shooting perfectly while the player clicks the popup away, this is an FPS where every split second can win or lose a match!
Here I am, sneaking into a perfect position to counter a LAV breakout/incursion I spot coming on skirmish B, I wait for just the perfect moment, NOW!, jump out, lock on my swarms, split second before they launch "Popup >> warning the servers will be shutting down in an hour, press 'x' to continue, have a nice day courtesy CCP" the game freezes my character in the middle of the road. - i press x, now my lockon is CANCELLED! the LAV turns around. I try a second lockon, I'm boxed into the road and have nowhere to run to get away-- The LAV runs me over, then takes the B objective, then red overruns the map form there, then we lose the game.
I'm so angry I just can't continue playing for the night. . . How can you call yourselves game developers and implement such totally obvious mistakes!?
Flashing a message in the middle of the screen is bad enough-- but forcing the player to lose control, lose weapon lock, then have to press a separate button, in the middle of an FPS!?!?!?. . . I'm just so angry I can't believe i am trying to beta test this. . .(must calm down, breath)
It's kitten implementation like this that will make folks eventually turn away from this game. I'm a 10 year EVE vet, and DESPERATELY want Dust to succeed, and even I am having trouble tolerating some of the basic implementation of this game! (calm, breath. . .)
avoidable nonsense like this happens every night playing Dust, and those popups just keep coming over an over until shutdown. It is eventually going to frustrate even your most patient player base . . .
(calm, breath. . .)
Please CCP, get the basics working.
--> Popup messages should NEVER remove control from the player or cancel weapon lock.
EDIT: kitten-dacted for language. I'm calmed down enough to write again. . . |

When this happened to me a couple of nights ago, I raged like you.
But I realised that I needed to calm down before posting... then I forgot to post when I'd calmed down.
Thanks for reminding me. Not how I'd phrase my complaint while I'm calm and in control, but still the same sentiments. I think you should give CCP some leniency on the grounds of them never having developed any FPS games before this one, and it's pretty reasonable that this mechanic is just a carry-over from EVE - as you mentioned yourself, their core development experience isn't negatively affected by a similar system.
I think the pop-up should be a "notification" that makes the comms menu light up for a few seconds, and allows you to hit select to bring up the message at a more convenient moment. |

This has bothered me before but I wasn't able to put my finger on why until it was brought up here. In the past I thought that it happens to everyone and is more or less fair since any advantage/disadvantage is mostly a matter of luck (though clearly some people find it more irritating than others). Now I actually think about it it's not necessary for it to be so invasive.
The downtime warning is good if you're playing EVE since many tasks can take a considerable amount of time. In Dust (at least as it stands now) there aren't really any reasons for having the warning take such a high priority. I think it would work just as well if when queuing for a match there were a message letting us know the match's timer is longer than the time remaining before downtime. |

Thank you above for such level headed responses, you stated solutions better than I could. I was so angry last night i was on the verge of giving up on dust for good. . .
(ahem), more respectfully, c'mon CCP, pls change intrusive popups.
