Just hear me out.
I notice one thing playing Dust for a while. Took a break because I was getting bored playing with same maps and also AC3 came out and Resident Evil 6. I wanted to play Dust 514, but I just decided to wait for the next build and start again.
This morning, I decided to play MAG because how I miss this game so much. Then I notice something about the controls. I notice that I was using the same technique in Dust which is the left stick that dominates over the right stick. I tried using that technique on MAG, and the result is that I have hard time aiming to anything. My left thumb just have this reflex using my left stick to aim instead of the right stick which is what was intended to do. I was strafing a lot like an idiot in MAG and die.
It might take a while for me to get adjusted. I also notice that MAG is fast pace. Buttons are responsive. When I was playing Dust, it feels like I have to press the left and the right stick harder and more muscles are being used. Imagine driving a Power steering, that's how smooth it is compared to non-powered steering vehicle. It's like using a keyboard vs a type writer.
I'm not saying Dust sucks. I'm just saying that I might end up having a carpel tunnel syndrome. Or worse, braking my controllers.

I've played Brink, Resistance, Dishonored and a handful of third-person shooters recently. I've played a lot of other FPS and TPS games in the past as well, some of which I was active in during my past experience with DUST in the E3 build.
The game feels fine to me. Not perfect, but not as far off as you're trying to make it sound. |

Try going to back to the games that you recently played. It feels weird.

Whoever says it feels fine is on drugs. It has an obvious laggy/sluggish feel to it compared to BF3/MAG/COD. I got around it by using a Keyboard + Gaming mouse with an auto-sensitivity adjustment on the mouse itself. |

MAG's controls were completely unregulated, you could play at any speed or sensitivity assuming you were good enough to stay in control. MAG was awesome. I miss MAG. |

I had this experience the other week. Borg popped on MAG too. Comming back to Dust was shocking. Time splitter has it bang on. Myself and Borg spent quite a while chatting about how slow, unresponsive, jerky and sloppy all the controls feel in Dust. It was a day of QQ. Everytime I died playing Dust that day, I knew on MAG I'd have swished around a corner, or shot the offending player first.

i've played MAG once since i've been playing Dust. I'd agree that MAG feels a bit more responsive/smoother, but i have 2 theories here...
1) dust is still a beta.
2) you are in a dropsuit in Dust, making movement a bit like well... wearing a space suit. sort of like going from playing paintball in summer cloths to playing in winter cloths. poor example, but you can get my drift.
the only real annoying thing i have with Dust's controls is sniping. in MAG, i could hit a moving target with ease. going 55-0 wasn't an issue for me sniping on MAG. you could adjust your sight to a very fine degree quickly. on Dust, it feels more forced and choppy. fine adjustments, especially quick ones for a moving target, are more difficult. then again, in MAG, most of your shots are ~150-300m max with the majority being <150m. in Dust, they can easily go over 1000m with most being 200-500m. |

i agree, control smoothness needs worked. its not that i'm in a dropsuit, its that when i hit R2 to switch weapons it should, instead i have to press it, press it, smash it, then its switches between my main, secondary and main again and it shouldn't do this.
same with grenades, pressing the button should throw them, not make me smash the button, etc
CCP needs to play MAG and BF3 and just feel how responsive the controls are and then implement this. |

Lore shouldn't be made up or used as a reason to hide less responsive controls. I do agree, things could feel... "snappier", rather than like I am piloting a tugboat on legs. |

If they want the feel of the lore in game it would be a reason to make controls different. This is not the case though, in the EvE novels there was a character with implants wall running like the matrix.
The limit to turn speed is part of game balance, the large deadzones are not. The deadzones should be fixed. |

In the E3 build, I noticed horrible deadzones.
I also noticed that, by turning down the deadzone settings on the PSMove controller tab, it reduced them (they were still pretty big though).
In the current build, with the deadzones still set to 0 for the Move, I'm not noticing any problem with deadzones. |

+1
IMO, you hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what my experience has been and also because I was used to MAG. This is definitely, in my mind, is the foremost issue that devs need to keep working on, with higher priority than even lag and frame rate stutter.
Actually, when people used to tell me that, when playing other console FPS, AIM ASSIST was used I used to not believe it, since MAG felt to me so natural, precise and responsive in control and it seemed to me that all FPS must have been like this. Boy was I wrong. |
